.to the subject, until OM' people are fully
_awakened to the necessity of devising ways

movement of men of all parties is needed to
save na from overwhelming taxation, robbery'
of the_ public funds and scenes of eontinued

To show the imperative necessity of such
a movement, we will give a few more instan
re the savage, brutal spirit that rules this.
County, .springing from laxity in the en
forcement- of the laws; and from the doctrines
inculcated by Copperhead partizans.
In Septeniber last an inoffensive Protestant
Irishman was brutally murdered at Lorberry.
No efforts were made to capture the mut:der
ma, though they, skulked in the vicinity of
the scene of the murder upwards of a week.
A few days after Presidant Lin Coln bad
been assassinated, three miners who were in
an Irish groggery at Lorberry, and expressed
sorrow that the act had been committed,
' were beaten terribly. One was supposed to
be dead, and was dragged into an adjoining
piece,of woodF, and his body covered with
stones to hide it. Complaint was made be,
. fore a justice of the peace,, and a warrant is
nued for the arrest of the perpetrators, but
no constable: could be found courageous
enough to make an 'arrest. The. scoundrels
. who perpetrate these lawless acts, ,make
threats freely and openly in regard to the
treatment whichmay be expected by any one
who attempts to arrest them.
Lately a - gang' of Irishmen entered a pas
senger train which was proceeding from Ash
land to Tamaqua ; knocked down the con
ductor and robbed him of $lO. They iike
wise maltreated in the most shameful man.

fortnight since another eang of Irishmen,
among-them the notoriqus Barrette., attacked
Girardville, two unofientling.Etiglish

were icf, on the,roa i fot. The men we
understand are recov, ring. -but it is a miracle.
