It is true that Mr. Wihnot others; thought
the rate of duties under the Tariff .ol 1842, too
high, and was in favor of a comprotnise Tariff.—
Subsequently, however, Mr. Wilmot perceived his
error, and frankly acknowledged it. A year be
fore he received the nomination fur Governor, he
stated that he had changed hie views on the Tariff
question, and was in favor of a Protective Tariff.

any man in tennsylvania. Even Henry C. Carey
was at one time its favor of Free Trade. Who
