This mixture, in open i dles, hardly swells or loses

When thrown into ovens, it cokes but poorly.
The ovens for thiss , purposei are 50 . in • number,
holding a charge of-4 tons Of Coal each, which
is burnt 4.t.'.hours. There are many excellent

• At these, the smallest of the great Merthyr
Iron Works, there-are 8 furnaces, one of which
was out' of blast at the time of tuy'risit, The
remaining 7 yielded a weekly produce of 900

Coal (seini-inthiFticite) and two-thirds coke. The
latter is made in open piles, the Coal for the pur

'down the Taff Vale, where the 'veins are of a more
bituminous character. There are no coking ovens
here whatever. - • ~
' The highest bed - dr - Coal worked, is called the

is the 'restos Vein,' whose analysis - is thui given by

Dear Sir: We have now In succes4ul operation at one
of our Ore Ranks, the Arta* - 111oisling and Pimping
Engine, bought of you souk time ago, and think for
economy and utility, it cannot be surpassed. u the
quantity of fuel consumed by it Is much has than that
of common Stationary Engines of the lame capacity.—
As reggrdsThe working of it, , it Is much superior to the
common Engines that we have in use at Ore Banks, be
ing the same power, and using much more steam than
the Portable.
The expense of keeping itin good running order has
teen, when compared with o her Engines, very linen.—
We would cheerfully recommend all those putting En
' gimes at Ore Banks, Coal Mines, Ae., to try the Portable
Engines manufactured by yon. Yours, respectfully,
