THE PRXF:DOM OF rur PRESS IN INDIANA.-'
John Pettit. late an U S. Senator, is now 6r
cult Judge in one of the Courts of Northern
Indiana, and has been distinguishing him'Self
by making it a standing rule in his court, that
during the trial of any murder case, no news
paper of the county shall 'publish any ruling
or pretended ruling, or any evidence. or pre
tended evidence therein, or any_ article there
on. Some of the editors in the county where
he promulgated thii decree, paid 'no attention
to it, whereupon they were 'arraigned, fined
one hundred dotlars, aud threatened with int
prisonrneTA if they reheated the offence?—
Judge Pettit must indeed have singular ideas

The bridge is to have but one Span, and to be

either as a grand promenade or exhibition,
room, to be lit by sky-lights. Tiie work, which
is to be . highly ornamcntal, will, it 14 estima
