From this statement it atpears that the or;
dtnary expenses 01 government independent
of loans, interest on loans and public debt and
expenditures on the Public Improvement's, is
abtiut $750,000. While the ordinary reve.
ones trom sourced other than-the public
Works, is about 13,388,191. Supposing,
therefore, that the State 'were to make a
hinia-fide sale of her improvements for $15,-
000,000 and thus reduce the debt to 827,-
000,000—the ordinary. revenue now re
ceived would pay the interescon that sum,
the current expenses of the government if no
heavier than the•past year, and leave a soy
phis of about $1,000,000 as s sinking fund to
pay off the balance of the debt. Our readers
can dissect the foregoing figures for them- ,
selves. They need not 74. dependent upon
