I' STII.L FICTUtiIO a:
Thejews by the Atlantic is principally
confin to detailed accounts of the three bat
tles fought between the Turks and Russians.
in which the dormer were victorious; sod
another engagerttent reported, the details of "
which aie yet to come.
1i seems tbat the cuuraie and strength, of
the Turkish army have been entirely under.
'rated : while on the contrary the number and
skill. at the Russian forres have been greatly
exaggerated.
The report that the Russians had formed
an alliance with Dort Mahomen to excite
lt , dia seems likely to prove ttoe.
The British Government is, of course, on .ths
qui tire aboutthe matter. Their troops. at
Birmah are represented to be in a bad way.
Fran Choia.--:Vie it/surge - us surprised
the Imperial ; Garrismt at 'Shanghai. and
gained possession of the city without resist:
tatice. The chief officer of the Government
escaped and placed himself under the protec
tion oikthe Ugiteu Slates. •
It Was reported also that Pekin bad fallen,
but the rumor was noveredited.
=Canton was quiet, and, the ImpeTitiliste
were making strong, efforts to retake Amoy.
'The Emperor Ad arcepied the aid of 'Me
Tartar Chtefs of the North, as a kit 'resort.
The following is a detailed account . ol. the
battle u: Olieluitza, the first* eacournei-lbe
tween the Moslem and the Russians—it writs
out to be an affair of much more irriptirtaGew
‘ -
than et tirst stated ; • •
" Atter a coniiuueti tire from midnight of
November Ist, Co daybreak of the 3d, the
Turkish ammunition became exhausted;—
and with the wild cries of Aloskm warhire,
the entire Turkish fore charged the enemy
with bayonet and sabre, and scattered them,
at all points ! The Russians left twelvelinn-1
tired ou,the field In kiHed and wounded, and
were driven back upon Bucharest, where a
heavy . fire trum the artillery of the place.
brought
,up the pursuing Turks. and they
tettautttl to Olteniva, and encamped upon
the field, their first care being w fortify their':
pos'filuti. The battle was fought within al
triangle of land - formed by the waternof the
['kick and Danube. Only .nine thousand.
Turks were eugsged,.but therhad mowed
a strong quarantine building, and an old red
situated in the plain near the Danube,
as well as the village. From this position
they threw, shot and shell with great strut
upon the very entrance of a villaga, whenee
tivu. Wallenberg was directing toe attack."
Other interesting, facts are also given, of
this battle, from difiereut sources ; but we
are obliged to omit them, thouglim type.

,CGOLERA AMONG EMICORANTEL
The cholera, we observe, has been making
sad ravages in New Orleans, principally
however, among the Emigrant pop i

last week out of 216 deaths in that city, 129
were 'from cholera. _lt has also been unusu
ally virulent on ship-board--:the Constellation

load of' ••uropeakemigrauts, of whom up
wards of 100'our Of OOP had died from cholera
on the pakiage ; and the Marathon,. also Irvin
Liverpool, arrived since, reports 04 deaths
from the same fatal cansetout of 522 passen
gers. The disease seems,to be of an intim- .
ally fatal type, and generally carries off its
vkitroc in Si to l 2 hours after tieing first at
tacked.
