THE WALNUT HILLS TUNNEL.',, :
We bad much pleasure, on Saturday, vis
iting the projected tunnel under Walnut Hilts.
It is' certainly the most magnificent enterprise
in the West, and is prosecuted with au ener
gy and vigor worthy of the persevering con
tractor and his efficierit and experienced in
perintendent, Col. Stiphens.' '
The 'whole extent of the tunnel will bei.4l.
wards of 900 Q feet. Two shafts, 19 by 24

to the level of the railway, and the model
excavations begun at both. At each of thae,
and ; at the northern•terminus of the tunnel,
stationary steam engines are placed fur draw

boring, blasting and hoisting or removing
