- The State MediCal Convention assembled
in Philadelphia, on Tuesday last. TheDres
ident, Dr. CORSON, delivered.the Annual i Ad
dress, which attracted great 'attention. He
dwelt. upon the importance of a kiviwlfdge
of ChemistrYdiscountenanced .the use of
:1 lei - Cory in Medical practice, and concluded
a graphic and gfowing picture of the
deleterious effects of the example of physi
cians who countenance the use of alcoholic
liquors in- 'their practice. Dr, C. .took the
',old ground thav,:brandy, wine, and -malt
.beverages were never necessary in the treat
ment af any affection whatever, and that there
were nu eases in which, substitutes equally
efficacious could - not' be found.

an entire failure, Captain Ericsson has pub
lished a letter, slating that the only difficulty l
met with is that of the cylinder boucirns or
heaters, made of boiler iron, having - proved
too elastic and yielding to rem* atr tight, or
to admit of fUll pressure being carried.—
They are to be replaced by others of east iron,
which will require several monihs time.
