as, the Witig State Convention has placed in

still hold to the faith of the sages and heroes
of the revolution, that shone like the light
which led the children of Israel from captiv

allows of the freest discussion of political
and religious sentiment—which, believing ill'
the elevation of the human race, and level;

ever been the advocates and friends of the
great Whig principle of Protection to Ame
rican Industry ; and that we are in favor of a
specific Tariff as The true and certain mean

and prosperity of our common country.
Resolved, ° flat the Whig Party strongly
advocate and support the great system of im
provements of the great Rivers and Harbors_
of the country. These are the great high
ways of the nation, by which the richness
and wealth thereof, are to be opened to the
World, and over which the citizens of this
great Republic shall travel to interchange

Resolved, -That we all pledge our support
to the Union as it is—and that we regard

the Compromise laws; as a final settlement

all the cities, and the demand for,Coal is unusually
brisk. All our Operators have:brders ahead. and

all been sent off. The shipments, therefore, in all

the present weekly iiverage, front thikfßegion.
Prices of Coal remain firm with an upward ten
dency. Prime What command 5,2 a tint
in less dm two weeks, Wtictilurly by Canal. Red
Ash is now selling at i 2 '37 by Canal. Boats are
very scarce to Philadelphia.
The Rending Rail Road Company and also the
Schuylkill NUL' igal 4)11 Coln pally ere doing a splen

the Rail Rood has increased at least oue-thin: this
year, over former yfears, and the receipts will in all
