GALLS ON HORSES
More than twenty years ago, when our
large terry hunts were propelled •by horse
power, and the horses, by moving round to
a circle were exceedingly liable to he galled
by the collar, I learned from the ferrymen
t4e use of alum and whiskey. They bathed
the neck and back, wherever the harness
rubbed, with whiskey into which pounded
alum had been put until no more could he
dissolved. When a gall had occurred, con
stant bathing would secure the continued
List of the horse, and actually .heal the
wound while in service. I resorted to this
remedy, carrying it with me when I jot
ur!.•ed, and have continued its use with
undiminished approval, fOr more than twen
ty years. I apply no other remedy. When
a horse has been put out for the winter, and
has not been used, his breast and-back
be tender. A single hour's use of saddle or
collar, in a hot day, will then scald the breast
so as to produce serious injury. My uniform
practice, therefore, has been, for a • week
k, before beginning, to use the harness, to h'ar
dep the breast and back by. bathing them
regularly two or three times a day. No in
jury has, then resulted from the application
of the collar. And *hen a bad gal/ ha,
actually' occurred, a frequent and petterer
lug use of this remedy has secured the con
stant nse of the animal, and healed The
wound while in continued_ service.---Rure

EARLY eII'CTING OF GRAIN
In advanc-e. of the time of harvesting the

SOWED CORN.
I wish to 'tell you, thousands of farmer
readers, of one year's experience in growing
corn for fodder. I sowed three bushels
about the fifteenth of May last, on one acre
of land, and notwithstanding the bad season
with us last year, the produce was sufficient
to keep three cows through the winter.‘ , . ,
Cattle prefer it, and there is far more
nuts

small bundles, set it up in the field and let
it remain about three weeks, it wasperfectly
cured, yore we housed It. Care should be
taken not to piit too much of it in a' body
