INGENIOS TRICK.
An English paper relates the following in
genious mode of "raising the Find," prac- -
-tised by a musician on the credulity of the
?inhabitants of a country town:
"A foreigner, named Vog,al, a celebrated
Ante player, advertised a concert for his
benefit., and in order to attract those who
"Ilad no music In their souls,
And were not moved by concord of tweet sounds,"
'he announced that between the acts lie Would
exhibit an extraordinary feat never before
-witnessed in-Europe. He would hold in his
left hand a glass of wine,' and would allow
six of. the strongest men in the town to hold
:his arm, and notwithstanding all their efforts
to . prevent him, would drink the wine! So
morel ando surprisin,g a display of strength
as it was naturally regarded, attracted a very
.crowded house, :and expectation was on the
-tiptoe,,-when our hero appeared on the stage,
glass in hand, and politely-invited any half
dozen Of the audience to come forw-ard and
put his prowess to the test. Several gentle
tnen, amongst whom was the Mayor of the
place, immediately- advanced to the stage,:and
grasping the left Ofri of 4 Vogal, apparently
rrendered the performanceofhis promised feat
•quite out of the miestion. „There was an aw
ful pause for a Moment,
.when our arm
bounded hero, eyeing the gentleman who-had
!pinioned him, said in broken English, "Jeri - -
tech-nen, are you all :ready? Are.you quite
sure you have got fast hold?" The answer
-,having been given.in the affirmative, by a
very e,on6dent nod from those to WIIOIII it
•was addressed. Vogal, to the infinite aniu.e
meat of the spectators, and to the no small
sarprise of the group round him, advancing_
.his right arm', which was free; very coolly'
took the wine glass from his left . hand, and
'boxving pofitely to the half dozen gentlemen,
"Jenteelmen,l have the honor to drink
alk:your goat health," at the - same time qu.af-
:frog off the pine, amidlt a general roar of
!laughter, and universal cries of "Bravo, bra
; well done Yogel."il

T IIE Subscribers have kiln received a further sup

chocolate or brown, resembling the sand stone now in

Its principal ingredients are silica, alumina and pro.

satlafacuirily accounts for its Lire-proof nature—the
two former sulrstanees being non-conductors, and the
latter acting as a cement, to bind the whole together
and make a firm and durable paint..
For nee It is mixed with Linseed Oil, and 'applied

Berman Bitters.—lfere is a..preparatinn which the
leading prerees in the Union appear to be unanimous
in•recommending, and the reason Is obvious. It is
made After a prescription furnlalted by .the lite Dr
Chrlefopher Wilhelm Hoolland, Professor of the Uni

many has ever produced. Ile was emphatically the

mach, enruttipatlon, and all complaints arising from a
dlsorded condition of the stomach, the liver and the
intestines. Nine Philadelphia papers express their
conviction of its excellence, and several of the editors
speak of its abets from their own individual expe
rience.' Underjßese circumstances, we feel warrant
ed. not only in calling the attention of our readers to
the preaent proprietor's' (Dt. C. M. Jackson's) pre

The Philadelphia Itatardey Goats. the best fimily
newspaper Pohl kbed in the United Steles, the editor
says of Dr. lloofiand's German Bitten.--" It is seldom
that we recommend what are termed Patent Medicines
to the confidence and patmnage of our readers : and,
therefore, when we recommend Dr. Hoof Land's Ger
man Bitters, we . wish It to be distinztly understood that
we are not speaking of the noontime of the day, that
are noised about for a brief.period and then forgotten
after they have done their guilty rue of unschter, but
of a medicine long established, universally prised.and
which has met the hearty approval of the Faculty
iteelf."
Ev,idence upon evidence has been received (like the
foregoing) hem all sections of the Union, the last
three years, and the strongest testimony in its favor
is, that there is more of it used in the practice of the
regular Physicians of Philadeiphta thln all the other
nostrums combined, a fact that can easily be establish
ed,and fully proving that a scientific preparation will
meet with their quiet approval when presented even
in this form.

when hope of relief had been given up, and even

To lustrate the use of the GALVANIC BELT,
suppose the case of is person afflicted with that bane o f
civaization. DYSPEPSIA, or any other Chronic or Nenr
ous Diaorder. In ordinary cases, stimulants are taken.
which, by their • action on the nerves and muscles of
the stomach, afford temporary relief, but which leave
the patient in a lower state, and with injured faculties,
after the action — that excited has ceased. Now compare
this with the effect resulting from the application of the
GALVANIC BELT. Take a Dyspeptic sufferer, even in
the worse symptoms of an attack, and simply tie the . Belt
around the body, using the Magnetic Fluid u directed.
In a short period the insensible perspiration will actin).
the positive element of the Belt, thereby causing a tial.
mune circulatiffn, which will pass on to theaegative, and
hence back again to the positive, thus keeping up • con
tinuous Galvanic circulation throughout the system. Thus
the most severe case, of DYSPEPSIA are PERSIA.

But whatever improvements or discoveries

for manure must rely mainly on his stables .

the yards and the stables should be provided
with litter, such as straw, hay, leaves,

with the wash of roads or 'the overflowing
of streams, in sufficient quantities to absorb
