'National administrations, are reetiesied to meet at the
following desiguated places, between the hours of I

1849, rot the Purpose of electing two delegates to re
present each election district in a County Convention,
which will assemblelmt the house of John Jones, in
Schuylkill Raven. on Monday the 10th of September
next. at 12 o'clock, M.. for,the purpose of forming a

which are all highly reopectable, and many of
them very elegant, eve usually "presided over" by

they are surrounded with daughters, nieces, and
so forth. These ladies are or no .maanneeof use"
in the bousehcßd affairs—if they wan: a glass of
water from the adjoining room, the bell is rung
for a rietvent • This, of couree,is nothing uneom
moo for the "upper.crust"—but here it is almost
universal. Well, the question now arises: what
is done with the ladies of the boarding houses!
They are on the look-out—for what! Guess !

The Streets are all extremely:wide, and the
pavements in proportion. Willis calls Washing
ton the "city of magnificent distances.': It is also
a city of trees—the streets are all covered with
them,, and the promenades are the finest of any
other city in the Union.. I may obsene, en pas
sent, that it is not fashionable hrfiv trays, for the
lad): to bold by the gentlementa arm, in evening
promenade,—she leans gently against his shoulder,
or, rather, upon his shoulder-breast, and with those
who know how to walk, the fashion is very pretty
and very interesting. , But alas ! for unromantic
fat people, and substantial folks generally!

with news 6 days later from Europe. The fol
lowing are the moat important items:
ENGLAND:A very large and most enthusias
tic meeting has been held in London, at the Lon.
don Tavern, to express ptil•lic sympathy with the
efforts being made by the Hungarians for the
achievement of ttieir independence; to urge upon
the English 'Ministry of (hie crown the recognition
of the government. This actidn on the part of
Parliament, did not appear: sufficiently expressive;
but some of the members,' , instead of ex creasing
more sympathy, desire, at L once to take up ethers
an behalf of Hungary.

the Prorogation of the Assembly, recommended

Serious divisions exist in the ranks of s ma
jority of the Legislative Assembly * and Ihe Legi
laminas have determined to recede from the ranks
of the Bonaparticts end Orleanists, and from a
separated party.
It is announced that the troops who had re
ceived orders to embark fur Italy, who'had beau
countermarched after the announcement-of the
surrender of Rome, are now to be embarked for
their original destination.
HUNGAILT.—It is'diffieult to decide. intelligibly,
the military operations of the contending ormies,
as all the accounts hem Vienna to the 21st ult..
are exceedingly confused end contradictory. It
is admitted on all Wide, however, that the treach
erous lion, of Croatia, Jellechich, has been com
pletely defeated by tfrV:jilaygars under Been. We
have further advicei Qom Hungary, but being of
such a character, updn which no reliance can
be placed upon them we.omit them.
Roam—Linder the intlitary rule of Gen. Ond
inpt, order and general tranquility prevails at
Heinle. All public acteare readered in the name
of the Pope. His holiness still continues et Gaeta,
blt'beyond the fact that•he will remain there after
the accouchrcent of the Queen of Naples, nothing
seems known. It is said be will efterwards pro—
*reed to Rome in the full posacesion of both tem
poral and spiri.ual authority, and that the priest
hood around him having learned -nothing from
him regarding their past misfortunes,. resolutely
refuse all concessions to the popular party.
• The American Consul at Rome had not re
mained his functions since the outrage comMitted
on his place and family by the French soldiers.
The Consul, after strongly protesting sgainst,the
indienity. withdrew.
Scares,—The prolonged resi.tance of Ve;nice,
says the London Ilmes, whose defence against an
; overwhelming force has added another page of in.
perishable splendor to her history e has shown the

Gold Mine an old mansion in Sweden,
