nected with the school, teaches the English branches.
' The German is considered one of the most important
branthes of the school, and, therefore, besides the usual
recitations in this lan,guage, half an hour is spent every
day with the German pupils in German disputations,
and discussions. -The exercises are conducted by two
teachers, who, brexchaliging their ideas with each other
in the presence of the pupils, lead them gradually to do
the same, and thus , enable them to %peak the German

NF'AV CORN 'DRYER.—At the meeting' of
tile' New York State Society, held - a :Saratoga
Sprlngs, on . the 2KI inst., a description was read of
a. new apparatus for kiln-drying Indian corn, re.
cently_ erected by Cul. John H.:rower, of - Clinton;
Oneida county. It was as follows ;—A frame
work of brick is built; arched at the toil., enclosing -.
a sheet iron cylinder, made up of slarate tubes
about two inches square, coupled Lo ge her by iron
castings. An iron shaft passes throngh the cylm
der, sustained by a support at, each en ; and over
a pulley at one end of this shaft, run abelt from
some of the machinery of the mill, which thus
form the motive power of the machine. ,The grain
runs from a feeder into the head of the cylinder,
thence into thelubes; and as the cylinder'revelves, ~
one end of. it
_being 'elevated, the grain has a re- .
volying motion, gradually.passes forward and thro'
