This two millions is the decrease of our et•

increasing as above. This clearly staws that the
theory of exchanging farm produce does not work
very well! as yet for- the tables indicate clearly
that our means of buying from the sale of bread
stuffs have fallen MI; while'oui purchases have
increased.
The years between which we bave made thi
comparison exhibit a correct state of our exports

From no source can we now hope for an ex
tension of the market for bread stuffs, except
Englund, and even there we have yet to learn
that we can do an .estended and profitable trade.
The relaxation of her Tar:ff on bread stuffs will 1
stimulate their produrti3n throughout Europe:
and it is not probable that we shall obtain any
of that extension of markets home hos anticipate.
The true policy' of his country is a more` equal
d:vlsion of labor, so re to prermt 506 - large sums
from leaving' the country to .pay fur our imports.
We must manufacture more, and thus make a
home market for our raw material. The work
men who make these $511,090,000 of imports
must be fed here, and bo taken froM the, producers
grain to be consumers, thus enhancing the
jtke of grain in two ways: first, by decreasing
production, and next, by increasing its consrtffip
iron. In short, we should in our intercourse with
other nations, pursue the course adopted by al!
good farmers, and that is—never to buy from for
' signets what can be made as well at home.—
