stands immediately upon thi Railroad. within a short
distance of the mouth of on of the coil mines, from
which an incline plain lea/ to the tunnel head, and
by means of an apparatus attached to the steam
engine, the coal, ore. limes nne, du. are drawn tip.
• The Furnace is aa (eft vinare at the• base and 475
feet high. The foundation !under the whole to very
substantial, being 5 feet deep and 42 feet square.
The tunnel is 171 feet high with three charging doors;
cast iron (ratites and chutes to each door., The arches
fbr the tuyers are In feet wide; the tempt arch 15
feet wide ; the hearth 5 feet high and the bosh is 19
lest across. The interior of the stac k is lined with fi re
brick 10 inches long, and the ;whole is braced with bats
of iron four feet apart, to ith large washers and keys..
There are t nip steam engines of 90 borne power each
and two blowing cylinders 02 inches diameter, 10
Boilers 20 feet long, and 30 inches in diameter. The
engine house ts 69 feet by 30, the boiler house 00 by 45,
and the casting house 48-feet long, 45 feet wide and 20
feet bieh to the equare. Ti o machinery is of a very
superior character, and in first rate order, and the whole
establishment one which it is believed offers nullities
nu pig iron surpassed by none in the State. The -fur
nace and mines areoffered for Falser to rent, either sep
erately or together. upon such terms as may be agreed
upon. During the time the works were in operation they
made iron of a very excellent quality, of which ample
certificates can be shown (torn gentlemen who have put
chased and used the artlclein their foundries. The coal
has been proved to be well adapted to the sinelting
of iron as well ,as other pert:loses to which anthra
cite'coal can be applied, and may be produced from
the mines in large quantities. The route to market
at 'from Sunbury by the Pennsylvania and Tidewater
innate to Havre de Grace. ithrn which latter point the
eastern and southern markets" are easily accessible.

and in exchange for coal.

call the atteritien of Tax Payers...to the provision
of the 42d section of the act ,of 29th bf.Aprli, 1844,
which provides "That if any county shall pay into
the State Treasury, its quota of Tax fifteen days prior
to the first day of August, in any year. such county
shall be entitled to an abatement of five per cent on
the amount no paid, and any State tax remaining Orr
paid by any individual or Corporation, after said tax ti
due. and payable by said county to the Cominonwealth,
shall bear an interest of sir per cent, and be a lien on
the estate on which it is charged, till (Idly paid and sat.'
