call the attention of Tax Payers, to the *vision
of the 424 section of the act of 20th of April,lB44,
which provides 'That If any county ahallpay into
the State Treasury, its Om of Tax fifteen ;lake prior
to the first day of Anguat, in any year, :such county
shall be entitled to. an abatement of - five per cent on
the amount so paid, and any State tax remaining un
paid by any individual or' CorOoration, after said tax is
due, and_ payable by said County to the Coinmoriwealth,
shall hear an interest of Six per cent, and he-a•lien on
the estate on which it is charged, till fully pitdCintliat

Danville and Pottieille Raihoad,l9 miles from Sun
ory •si,iii of the Pennsylvania Canal: The furnace
stands immediately upon the. Railroad / within a short
distancq of the mouth of one of the coal mines, from
which an incline plain leads to the tunnel head,, and
by means of an apparatds attiched_to.the steam
engine, the • coal, ore, limestone, are drawn up.
• The Furnace is Xi feet square' at the base and 471
feet hill. The foundation under , the whole Is very
sutistan ial, being 5 feet ~ deep and 92 feet square.
The tunnel is 171 feet highl with three c harging ; doors,
cast iron fratnexand sbutea to, each door. • The arches'
farrhaluyers are lerfeeti wide ; the tempt arch 15
feet wi , e ; the hearth 5 feet high and the bosh' is 12
feet across. The Interior of the stack is lined with fire
brick 115 inches long, and th , e w le is braced witlebais
wof iron four feet ' apart, rgc;pfesa,,and keys.
There are two steam ' 'engines of 9 se. p`thver• each
and two Mowing cylindera nch 's diameter, 10
Boilers 20 - feet long, and 20 inches in diameter. 'The
engine howre 1360 feet by 20,1hdbollerhouse 60 by 45,
and the, cautlnglinuse 98 feet long, 95. feet wide and 20
feet high to the square. The machinery is of a very
superior character, and in /hit rate order, and the whale
establishment one which it is •beheved offers faeilittes
for pig.iron surpassed by none.in the State. The fur
nace and mirfes are offered fiirsale or to rent, either.sep
erately together, upon such terms ,hs may be agreed
.upon. During the time the Works were in Operation they
.made iron of a very•excellent quality, of,which ample
certificates can be shown from gentlemqn who have pur
chased 'and used the article in their foundries. The coal
has beip proved ta 'be well adapted; to the smelting•
of iron as well as other purposes 10 which anthra
cite coal can be applied, and may be produced from
the mines in large quantities. The' route to market
si from Sunbury by the Pennsylvania and Tidewater
canals to Havre de (trace, from which latter point the
eastern and southern markets are easily accessible.
Iron ore from Monleura ridge; ono of the most valua
ble ores in the State can bevbtalned at little expense
and in exchange for coat.
• • There is a saw mill on the , propeity affording a full
supply of lumber for the use of the mines, and for
other purposes, and there are also a ndmher ordwelling
. houses in the immediate vicinity of the furnace, intend
ed.to he occupied By workmen connected with the

Secy. 1: Be it enacted by the.denate and, Douse of
Representatives in the Commontevabh of Pennsylva
nia, in general Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted
by the authority 011 the same, that the Commissioners
of the County cif Schuylkill.. after giving duo and
pablit notice of the time and Plate -et sale, in at least
one newspaper printed In said cunnty, are hereby au
thorized to sell at public sale, a certain tenement., con
sisting of one half lot of ground, with'the appurtenan
ces, eltuate on the northwest side. of Market street, in
the Borough of Pottsville, and numbered in Pott & Pat
te,rson's additional plan number.ls. being the same
house and half lot of ground, sold .to the .Sheriff of
said County, to the Commissioneri thereof, to secure a
debt from a certain Daniel Christian, and as soon as the
purchase money is paid to the'Freasurer of said coun
ty, or. its payment secured in . such manner, ns said
Commissioners may direct, the said Commissioners
shall snake and execute under their bands and seals
of office, a deed of conveyance to the purchaser,
which shall he good and valid to convey all the inter
est of the said Daniel Christian, divested by the said
