to empty the ten thottaand , warehouses of mer chandixe, io Europe to supply the free-ports _of Amerimi When the contents of iheeei`ware bonzes come under the hammer, and the Proceeds are converted into specie, we are confident facts will fully verify our estimates. A very brief sumrhary_Of• the conclusions of your committee may not be amiss. A tariff of protection, to be increased from, time to time, so as -effectually to countervail the competition of foreign countries, end secure to - our own mechanics and (manufacturers the • home market for all the fabrics of necessity and comfort, and provide a vent ler agricultural prodections, vial!' no doubt the ob- Jectiof our revolutionary statesmen. 'Oey were well aware that reduced antics' in creased importations. And a demand for? specie will necessarily contract our bank bill currency in the propbrtion of three or more to one on the bal ance orimports over exports, thereby reatiang the prices of property.in proportion to the contraction of the circulating medium. If the views of the patriots of the revolution bad, been followed' out, there is not a doubt th tit our importations would have bi en. kepidown.s. , as to aUe been fully balanced by our exporta ticMs. `A sound, steady, and adequate circulating medium might then have been maintained; based "on on abundance of the precious metals, at all times fully adequate to, the legitimate business of the whole country, and its credit fully sustained. it would have answered all the purposes of solid Gold ; but the free admissi n of foreign commodi ties, from short-sighted legislation, have produced. • violent contraction of this circulating Medium, and through there means reduced' the prices of property, and thereby, deranged values, intrinsi cally doubling the amount to be paid on contracts for money heretofore entered into; affecting thereby all the relations of our whole social system, em bracing those essential points which relate to i the wages of labor, end the necessaries and comfmits of life; which has already bankrupted thousands, and threatens tens of thousands, whom nothing will save but a wholesome Tariff, speedily adjusted by practical men of sound sense. Such a Tariff will afford the only means by which this generation can be redeemed from inextricable embarrass inents; embarrassments which, if not relieved be fore the present session of Congress closes, will blast the Tprospects of the middling and poorer classos now on the stage of action, chiefly for the 'benefit of foreigners, and those among us' who have the means and the heart to extract wealth - from the misfortunes and miseries of their fello'v citmens T. 13. Murder if an Actor.—A most horrid and fatal tragedy was enacted at the Theatre in Mobile, on the night of Friday, March 25th. After the ehrtsin had droPped at the con efusion of the first act of the first piece, a quarrel ensued behind the scenes between a Mr. Ewing and Miss Hamblin, both attached to the Theatre, in which the latter plunged a dagger to the heart of Mr. Ewing, which caused almost iMmediate death. After the perpetration of the-awful dc. d. Miss Hamblin made her escape by jumping out at the window,. and at twelve o'clock that night had not been arrested. She left in her theatrical attire, dressed as a page. Miss Hamblin was at one time in this city, playing at the Walnut ; af terwards in Detroit and other Western cities, then at the New lork lHympic, under Rufus Blake's managemeit. From thence she sai'ed to the West Indies, with Oxley ; and then returned to the South, where she has been for the last two or three y ears. Doily Chron. Comstock & Co., the Agents for Oldridgo's Balm of Columbia, have deputies to sell that article in Boston and elsewhere.—We know a lady of this city whose hair was so near ly gone as to expose entirely her phrenological. developernents, which, considering that they be tokened a most amiable disposition, was riot in reality very unfortunate. NeverthelOss she mourned the loss of locks that she had worn, and, after a year's fruitless resort to miscalled restora tives, purchased, mime months ago, a bottle or two of Oldridge's Balm, and she has now ringlets in rich profusion, glossy, and of main blackness. We are not puffing—none of the commodity has been sent to us, end, indeed, we du not want any, tor though we were obliged :o wear a wig a year ago, we have now, through its virtue, hair e nough, and of a passable quality, of oar own.
