Dear Sir :—I should consider it ungrateful, if I did
not inform you.( and with my consent allow you to pub
lish this,) that after having tried by the recommendation
of my friends: almost every kind of medicine for coughs,
colds, &e.. 1 never found relief until lately having used
Dr. Bechter's Pulmonary Preservative, recommended
to me by your agent in this place, and which cured .me
of a vjolont cough. spitting of blond, pain in my . breast,,
and shortness of breath. with all • of which 1-have been
crefllited for two years past. lam now however enjoying
as gond health as ever, and owe my recovery to the above
valuable medicine.

DR:LEICY, at Philadelphia.
Respected Sir:-1 was much pleased after my arrival
in this country. to find that Dr. Bechter's valuable prep
aration. so long successfully used in many parts of
Germany. is no r prepared by you. 1 have seen many
wonderful csresmade by it in the old country. Many
persons, whose lungs were supposed to be almost en
tirely deStroyed, and pronounced incurable„,have been
restored to good health by it. 1 know ..where one case
was beyond 'believes of ever recovering. and was for
years helpless, and confined to bed without being able
to sit up, but was raised by the wonderful effects of Dr.
Bechter's Pulmonary Preservative, and so fir cured as
to be able to ride and walk about. A great many in
stances-have-been cured in the various Pulmonary af
fections and I myself have received great benefit.from
it, both here and in my own native country, I hope it
may be as successful in this country esti has been in
Germany. When properly known no family will be
without it.

For the Regulation, Curbing and Paving the a:
walks and Gutters in Mahaktango Street.
Ssc-rtoN 1. Be it ordained and enacted by the Town
Comic it of the Borough of Pottsville. and it is hereby
ordained and enacted by the authority of the same: That
the grade or regulatioreof the ascents & descents of& in
Mahantang,o Street shall be & the same is hereby fi xed &
established as follows: •At Center Street seven feet ;
eight inches above the top of Central Block, 'hence to
rise thirteen feet two,, inches to the centre of Second,
Street, thence to rise fourteen feet ten inches to the cen
tre of Third Street, thence to rise seventeen feet live.
inches to the centre of Fourth Street. thence to rise'
twenty feet to the centre of William Street, thence to
rise fifteen feet to the centre of Courtland Street. thence .
to rise eight feet six inches to the centre of St. Johns
Street. and from thende to rise seventy one feet to the
Western line of the Borough. The said grade or regu
lation to be the height of the Curb Stone of the footway
on the Northwardly side of the Cart way, and the Curb
stone on the Sonthwardly side of the Cartway to be
one foot four inches higher at Centre Street than the
above grade, and to continue that height above the cor
responding grade of the Northwardly Curbstone trom
Centre Street to•the westward line of the Borough.
Sec. 2. The width of the footways or side walks. in
Maliantango Street shall be thirteen feet, measuring
from the true line of the street. any regulation. resolu
tion or ordinance to the contrary notwithstanding.
SEC: 3. The said sidewalks or footways on both sides
of the said Street from Centre Street to Eleventh Street,
shall be graded, cut down, filled up. curbed and paVed
as herein after eirected. and the gutters made and pa•
veil, and the property in front of-which such footways,
side walks and gutters shall be made and paved, shall
be and the same is.hereby faxed with the expense there
of, in pi °portion to the extent (lithe same in front,agree
ably to the provisions of the first second and third sec
dons of the Act of Assembly s entitled "a supplement to
an act entitled an 'act incorporating the Town of Potts
ville,in Schuylkill county. into a Borough, passed the
fifteenth day ofJune,A. 1). 1840 .
SEC. 4. The footways or sidewalks aforesaid, shall
be made or paved with brick. on the grade or regtea
lion established in the front section ciT this ordinance,
and supported with Curb Stones not less than three feet
long and six inches thickithe Curb Stones on the South.

from the Curb Stone to the line of the Street. The gui
tens, aforesaid, to be three feet wide, paved with stone.
The Cutter on the Southwardly side, to be nine inches
higher than the one on the Northwardly side. PRIM

side walks or footways shall not be required to be pa.

Stone, the residue of such footway or sidewalk from
the said pavement to-the line of the Street being laid
-with gravel so as to support the pavements.
Sec. 5. No person shall set or cause to be set any
Curb Stone, or to make or cause to be made any pate
ments, side walks; until the grade thereof shall be giv—
en by a person appointed by the Council for that pur
palse,ond.atty person who shall set, or cause to be set
any Curb Stone, or shall make or cause to he made
any Pavement or side walks contrary to the provisions
of this ordinance, shall for every offence forfeit and pay
a penalty of twenty dollars.
