To the Stockholders in the Cattawiasa Bridge Company, THE MANAGERS REPORT. pIiAT the Company is now clear of debt; and la- that the Stuck will now yield a profit to the holders, unless some unfortunate accident occur. The Company was organized In the spring of 1831, since which time they have had more than or. ainary d fficulties to contend with; amongst which may be particularly mentioned, the construction of a wagon road on the berm bank of sectrons as and 89 of the North Branch Canal, without which, the bridge would ¢e but a ptirtial benefit to the commu nity. This road was made at an expense exceeding 5000 dollars, which the Company had no funds to meet. About the time of the organization, there were 836 snares of Mock at sl.f . per share taken by indi. viduals ; and 200 shares taken by the Commonwealth. Of the 'individual shares, 777 amounting to 019495 ; ■nd 200 state stuck 15000, amounting in al! to $24425, were paid, and the remaining 59 shares having never been paid, are forfeited according to to taw. • The costs of the Bridge and Toll (louse ( not in cluding incidental expenses) was $26,500, to defray which, would require the sale of 1060 shares of Stock at 25 dollars per share ; but no more than 977 were sold and paid, and consequently there existed a deficiency of 2075 dollars ; to which, if the cost of the wagon road, $6OO be added (and the road ex penses exceeded that sum) the aggregate debt of the Company was 7075 dollars. To the liquidation of this debt the whole income of the bridge has been appropriated, ever since the completion thereof, and happily that object has been accomplished so as to leave a small balance on hand on the 6th day of May last. By an act of Assembly passed the 14th day of A ant, 1834, the 200 shales of stock owned by the State of Pennsylvania were transfered to the Cons deny at'par value, the proceeds thereof to be applied to the construction of the wagon read, the labour and expenses of which had grown chiefly out of the location and construction of the canal by the state, at a period of time long subsequent to the Act for incorporating the bridge company. As the stock could not be sold, the company had to borrow money wherewith to defray the cost of the road, and remain the owner, in its corporate ca pacity, of 823 shares of its own stock. At a meeting of the board of Mariagers, held the 20th day of May last, it was resolved to distribute the company's stuck, rao RATA, among the Individ ual Stockholaera to the amonnt of 2.5,9 shares, and to annul or strike out the remaining 24 shares; so 'hat the company shall cease to be a stockholder. 'Dili arrangement was accordingly made, and hence, each individual -in whose name stood three shares, will now be entitled to four, and other numbers in pro portion ; or in other words, each share will become a share and one third of a share, and hereafter div idends will be paid accordingly. The tolls received at the gate last year, amounted to 2287 dollars 81 cents. The bridge will require some repairs this year,.and the balance or the in come will be for distribution. --- 413 38 4298 46,766 By order of the Board, JOSEPH PAXTON, Preandent E7.a• S.
