From a careful examination of the reports of the
Visiting Committees apPointed weekly by the
Board, it Is found that the improvement of the pu
pils taught in the Public Schools is equal to the
. progress made by nose instructed in private schools,
and that many children are instructed in the Com
mon Schools, whose parents could not afford to pay
for their tuition.
MEI
The parents and guardians of children who are
taught in the Common Schools, as well as the Cit
izens generally, wuuld, no doubt, be gratified by vis
iting the Schools frequently, as.it would afford them
pleasure to mark the good order and regularity
man.tained in the Schools, add the application and
progress of the Scholars in their several studies.—
The Scholars would thereby be stimulated to use
greater exertions in learning- r visitdrs would be
enabled from actual observation, to form correct a
pinions of the merits and defects of the Common
School System of instruction—parents slid guar
dians would discharge a duty which they owe to the
Pupils who ere under their direction, and all par
ties be benefitted.
