You perceiv MicCambreleng has now
before the Houle of Representatives, two
bills, each
dollars
the issue of ten
millions 61' dollars t of treashry notes; or,
twenty milliond l : ofdollara, Of government
rags, white the t ;stupid partizans of the ad•
ministration areLbavlling aloud for a hard
money Gpvermaent. It is l wotthy of:re
mark, also, that: e4h bill provides for the
issue of a diffetenti kind of treasury notes.
The ten millioni which are its be re issued, l
ere receivable :in payment of revenue
bonds, for publib lid, dtc. , This class of
notes is to tiecOme i through.the aid of the
pending bill, a permanent, circulating
medium ; a Government paper, irredeem
ab'e, except in . :the payment of bonds, or
for lands, tk.c.
Thu oilier bill provides for ten
not receivable th dues to the Government,
bearing an interest, and redeemable in I!,
18 and 24 months. These are calculated
fir a foreign Market, arid for some days
past, Mr. WoOdbury has been negotiating
with a Broker tibbut dispnising or them in
Europe. To uch an arrangernek there
are two objectiOns. The first Is, i thit the
bill, authorizing their issue, has not yet
passed either 14ouse of Congress; nor is
it likely that . It ever will in its present
form. The second is, that Mr. Van Bu
ren is pledged to carry Out General Jack-
sort's policy, and- he most Sagely decided,
that our stocka should trot be owned in
foreign countries ; that the interest paid
to foreigners, Was a "burden upon the in
dustry of our people, and a drain of their
currency which no country 'can bear."
But if this twenty millions of dollars is
now wanting, and on this point there is no
doubt, why issue a rag money ? Why not
create a stock, and dispoke of it in the
market ? Why net let the people know,
that before the expire. ion of •the present
year., we shall have a national debt, in some
form, of twenty pr . twenty-five millions of
dollars? Who that reads Mr. Cambre :
leng's teport :,orr currency, can doubt the
fact, that this : government bank paper is
intended as a permanent circulating me
dium '?
h is adtpitted by the administration, tha
there is, at thrs moment, n large deficiency
and the Chairman of the .CoMmittee.o
Vays and Mans, expressly states (ha
"there is not the least probability that our
revenue for two years to. come, will be
equal to the wants of the Government"
Thu , , tt ig officially announced, that we
shall have to borrow money,.not only this
year, but every remaining year during the
administration' of President Van Buren.—
President Jackson boasted,. that he had
paid off the national debt. President Van
Buren will have an opportunity to boast
that he had renewed it, unless the Whigs
in the next Congress, hold him and his con
stitutional adsiser in check.
The Treasury is in a most exhausted
state. It has; scarcely money to pay the
members of ,Congress their per diem.—
The Clerk of the House some days since
made a draft ',on the 'TreasurY for about
forty thousand dollars, and in such a pitiful
state is it, the department made an of-.
fOrt to have : the drift reduced one-half,
when, upon enquiry, it appeared that one
of the assistaitt banks had already advanced .
him . withoUt Government funds in its
vaults, between fifty and one hundred thou
sand dollars. ,
A bill isnow pending before the Sedate,
making it penal ,to circulate as money, the
notes of late bank of the United States;
and while tbe.bit is thus pending, the

From the New York Courier of yesterday
Registry Law.—Mr. Hoffman, in the Board of
Assistants last evening, , offered a resolution of
reference to committee to inquire into the expe
diency of applying to the Legislature for the
passage of an act requiring the registration of
voters, and to inquire whether there benny consti
tutional ofije„ction to the passage of such an act.
The scene of iniquity through which we have
just passed. and which was eloquently and accu
rately portrayed by Mr. H. calls loudly for the
passage of such an ant Had Ouch a law been
in force previous to the recent election, we ven
ture to say that the majority for Mr. Clarke, in
stead of being .500 would have been 5000.

Tits COAL TRADE.—We published last week
all the information we had upon the subject of
coal business of the present season. There has
been about One Thousand tons ofcaal despatched I
mince the opening of the Navigation. Up to the
!same date last year, nearly Four •Thuusand tons
:was sent to market, and the business of the sea
;son considered permanently commenced. Some
of our readers will no doubt inquire the cause of
this great difference. We can only. repeat what
we have said before, that bad governmant—mis
erable calculators in high places, have'brought
distress upon the Country, and caused the estab•

tities of coal, to cease their operation, and now
permit it to remain in market unsold.—Mauch

-I's-A S it appears, that because itir. Crine obtained
no patent for *melting Iron Ore with An-,
thracite Coat in this country. many suppose that
.they are now at liberty •to ad9pt the. biethod of
smelling Iron ore With Anthracite by the nectof
a heated air blast;' although I; gave notice last
year that 1 had a patent for' smelting Iron ore
with Anthracite COO, botlrby the use of a- cold
atmospheric and allniated air blast, I meld now!,
inform the public egain, that oh the I.4thritT,Jen
wiry, 1838, receiVed a letter from the Commis
sioner of Patents lit Washington, stating: "Sir,
upon examining ilia cave of Mr. Crane's 'Replica-,
lion for a patent far smelting Iron by matins':of
anthracite, , 1 base viewed his claim as interfe
ring with your patent of Dec. 1833, and, have
given notice to iiiblettorney ot, this decision.”—
Every attempt to Smelt l imn tie with anthracite
by the use ofa heated air taint. is an infringe
ment upon my patent, against which I caption ,
and warn all men; ss X shall prosecute every one
infringing upon my rights, according to law.—
And 1 further offer to dispose of ;latent rights for
the erecting of furnaces, according,to my patent,
