A PENNSYLVANIA
,WAGONER—gOVER.
• NOR RITN ER.
The Farmers, Wagoners, ,and Laborers of
Pennsyliama, Who were so ably and triumphant
ended in Congress against the slanderers
of the Van Buren members of the South, by the
Hon. Charles Naylor, will read the following
thrilling paragraph from his speech of that oc
casion with pleasure. It is a merited tribut
giving unvarnished facts in the simplest lan
guage- 4
"I appeal (said Mr. Naylor,) to 4he Bepresen
tatives from Pennsylvania. Task you, sirs, who
is JOSEPH RlTNER—that distinguished man
who, at this moment Oa the Executive chair of
your stater a man who, in all' that constitutes
high moral and intellectual worth, heel few su
periors in, this country—one who haa all the
qualities tot' HEAD AND HEART necessary to
accomplish the great statesman, and who pos
sesses in.it most enlarged degree all the ele
ments of, HUMAN GREATNESS, Who, sirs,
is he9—A, NOTH ERN LABORER r —A PENN
SYLVANIA WAGONER—who, frir years,
drove his learn from Pittsburg to ;Philadelphia,
'over the mountains and over the mbar, not
'whistling as he went' —no sir, but preparing
himself ithen.by deep cogitation and earnest ap
plieationrfor the high destiny which the future
had in store for him.'
What Farmer, what Wagoner, what Laborer,
what Pennsylvanian can read the above
without feeling a thrill of pride and pleasure at
being - reminded that the Eiecutive .of this
great Commonwealth was a poor, fatherless
and pennyless boy that with small means and
limited opportunities for education, he his arisen,
like Cineinnatus of old, from a poor laboring
boy, a warner and a farmer, to "Govern men
and Guide the State," to the astonishment and
admiration of his Country. •
It is true, liter FARbIER GOVERNOR cannothoast
of being a Generill—and of exciting the sulfide*
of women and boys with tinsel and epaulette .at
malitia trainings, like General Porter, whose reg
imentals never saw any service in the Cause of
his evuntry—or many cause but tharof election•
eering for' himself. Nor can he boast of being
educated a lawyer, and in all the luxury and
pomp of pride and Wealth—nor of beings farmer
by raising RACE HORSES, or boarding out his
entire stack of horned cattle, consisting of two
calves. Bot he can say that he was a poor boy
with no ridh father to educate him--a laborer
depending upon the sweat Of his brow' for the
means of subsistente—a wagoner who drove his
own team. and cragged his own whip—a Farmer
who tilledlrei own, ground, raised his own cattle
for the Market, and trained his own horses for.
the plough. Such is the man presented to the
farmers, neclunieS, wagoners and laborers of
Permsylvania, for 'their support for Governor.—
