THANUGIVING DAY.—Tlittredity was more gen
erally observed as a holiday than usual. The
stores, with few exceptions, were closed, as
were also the various factories, mills, &e.
Nearly all the pnblio places of worship were
open, and service was held in the morning and
evening. Io the afternoon, a Union Prayer
Meeting, composed of members of different de
nonanati one, was held at Christ's (hi. )
Church, Penn street. The edifice was crowd
ed, and a very interesting time was expe
rienced.
The various exhibitione were likewise well
patronized. At the Theatre, a largo erowd
assembled, In the afternoon, to see Uncle Tom's
Cabin, which was performed to t•e satiefeotion
of all. In the evening, the place was so
oroyrded that standieg room for "one more,"
could net have been procured. Bullard's Pan
orama of New York, and Hanington's Diorama
of the Russian War were visited, both in day
; light and at night, by large audiences .
The Duquesne Greys turned out on parade,
after dinner, and made a fine display. They
numbered about forty•four muskets.
The Festival at Lafayette gall, for the bene
fit of the Ninth Ward Missions was an exceed.
ingly pleasant affair. It was well attended.
IThe net profits were about $lOOO, a very liberal
sum.
Drunkenness appeared to be loss prevalent
than on similar °sessions, and but little disorder
prevailed. This happy change was remarked
by all.
Take it all together, the day was an exceed
'ugly pleasant one, and universally enjoyed.
DISARM:3E7UL Bow AT A LAGER BEER HALL

the arrest of the perpetrators.
THE BOARD or DIRECTORS of the Merchant's
Exohaoge paned a resolution yesterday, thank
ing Hon. David Ritchie for favors in the way of
documents. Mr. Ritchie wee Specially com
mended by members of the board for his atten
alon and kin nese. We have no doubt members
of Congress would more frequently devote at
tention in the shape of books to public institu
tions, if proper means were taken to bring the
.matter is their notice. There is scarcely a book
Authorized by Congress to be printed, that would
.not, find in the Merchant's Exchange and Board
.of Trade a proper and appreciative location.
