Ontna binansa.--Yeeterday afternoon, about three o'clock, - the body of a. taste child, ap parently about six months old, was round in the canal, neat Second street. The - bcidy - traefirst seen by a couple of lads, who drew it out, and buried it on the side of the bank ; afterwards, they informed several persons of the circum stances, when the body was dialnterred, and no tification given to Coroner Alexander, who Ikea an inquest. Nothing satisfactory, however, re sulted from - the investigation, as no information could be elicited relative to the perpetrators of the act. The jury- returned a verdict of ti drowned by some 'person or persons un briown." This Inikes the third child-murder committed in our city witain a very short time, showing an extremely bad' state of morals.— Measures should be adopted to hunt out the perpetrators of these sots and have them brought to justice. ANNESTND ON SUSPICION —The police, from information received on Saturday, having reason to believe that a number of thieves who at present infest our city, made a number of houses of bad repute in the vloinity of Webster, Washington, and Prospect streets, their haunts, and suppo sing that the stolen properly might be secreted there on Sunday evening madeKdesoent on seve ral o f abodes of infamy in the neighborhood, and succeeded in arresting and conveying to the tombs four well knoTwn characters, Pete. Delaney, Samuel Black, John Williams, and Knooh Howell. Some fifteen houses were en tered by the officers, but no stolen property was discovered. Believing he could make something out of the parties in a few days, the Mayor committed throe of them, Williams, Black, and Delaney, to prison, on charge of disorderly oonduot and vagrancy. Howell was discharged. NEW Loccistrava.—A remarkably splendid new locomotive has just been placed upon the Ohio and Penney'Tapia railroad. It is a first class, Express Passenger Engine, built by 0. W. Bayley, of Manchester, N. H., and is an im provement upon the fine engines by the same builder now in use upon the road. The engine Is named the " Frederick Lorenz," in token of respect for the memory of Mr. Lorenz, who died last year, and who was one of the firmest friends, one of the largest Stockholders, and one of the most efficient directors of the corn patty. Ile abored daily in the service of the road, and was ever ready to aid It with his ex cellent business abilities, and his great personal credit. Soon after his death, the Board of Di rectors ordered that a new first class passenger engine should bear his name, and that resolu• tion has now been carried into effect. Pascootous DEPRAVIM—Two young lads named . Robert M'Coy and John Casey—one fourteen and the other eighteen years of age— were committed to jell, yesterday, by Alderman Major, for burglary and lure ny, upon com plaint of Mr. Albert Davis. The defendants, in company with several other boys, broke into the &ms of Capt Hazlett, on Franklin street, last week, during the absence of the occupants, and stole a number of articles. Casey is supposed to be the ringleader of an organisation like the Forty Thieves, which was broken up last sum mer by Mayor Volz, who sent nearly all the members to the House of Refuge.
