SATURDA.' MORNING NOVEMBER 10. A N/GHT Pouo® to ALLEGEIRIIY.—The repeat ed robberies, burglaries, and other outrages that have' lately taken place in Allegheny, ought to direct the attention of the citizens of that place to the necessity of an increase in their police force and the creation of a night watch. Hard ly a day or night passes, but thopublio journals are called upon to record some outrage against the laws. Owing to the non-existence of a suffi• cleat constabulary force, rascals, who are driven out of other cities, have there an opportunity to carry on their nefarious business with perfect impunity; robbery and other offences of a kin dred character can be perpetrated without ranch fear of detection. The present police offieers are excellent, nod do what they can to prevent thie state of affairs, bat so limited ie their number that It ie an im—' poseibility for them to attend to a moiety of the numberless occasions that demand their services. We believe there Is no city in thellnibn of the size of Allegheny that is unprovided with a night police, or where it is more needed. We know of many respectable gentlemen, compelled-by their business to remain out at a late hour of the night, who have been attackdd by lawless ruf fians, at different times, and insetf defence have taken to carrying fire arms—thiy-only protection they can insure to themselves. If the present financial condition of the city will not justify an expenditure &V the purpose we feel satisfied the tax payers will not object to an increase in their assessments. They de sire to be insured in the peaceable possession of their lives aad property and ere- wilting to sub • mit to any reasonable taxallou. that will give them this. The chief aim ot✓ government is to protect the government; all other matters are of minor importance, end when t it fails to do this a change Is imperatively called for. Many persona doing bnaineas on this aide of the river would like to reside in Allegheny, but are deterred by the unenviable name it erjoya. They prefer the disoomforts of the noise and bustle here, to the risk of their lives and proper ty there. If the Conticihrof our slater city pan be persuaded eo to regulate their police system that a little more safety can be given to residents we have no doubt it would be an Inducement to many to settle there. CLEVELAND AND PITTSBURGH B.AILBOAD —Toe Wellsville Patriot of Tuesday last, noticing the recent announcement of the contract for all the iron required to complete the river division of this road from Beaver to Wheeling, states that J. B. ring & Co., a company principally com posed of citizens of Wellsville, have the contract for the moat of the road between that place and Beaver, and, tinder their management, looks for no delays in the completion of that division of the road. The other division, between Wellsville and Wheeling, the Patriot understands to be go ing on with rapid pace, which promises a like epeedy preparation of the road for the laying of the iron. This prospect will be hailed by those along this portion of the road, both businees men and stook holders, with a great deal of pleasure. The difficulties of the times have pretend heavily upon the oombany, but the Pa triot thinks there will be few unwilling to give to the directors of the road that high meed of credit which they certainly deserve for their management of the road under circumstances of difficulty, which at timee seemed almost insur mountable. Bases MAKBB THE MAP."—This is as old and trite proverb, bat nevertheless one which the experience of every person convinces him there is considerable truth In. Mankind gener ally are much more disposed to give ot.courage meat and countenance to a man who presents himself clothed in the habiliments of a gentle man, even if he does not possess the qualities of mob, than to one who appears before them dressed unfashionably or in tatters, although owning all the characteristics of a true gentle man. The fashion of a man's garments has often much to do with the good or ill opinion formed of him. It will be seen, then, how necessary it is that every one, whose means will allow it, should be well and fashionably clothed. In an other oolumn will be found the card of Mr. B. F. Shope, Merchant Tailor, on Third street, who will provide every masculine who favors him with an order, with a suit that we warrant will raise the wearer at least fifty per Dent. in the estimation of all. Mr. S. Insures an admirable " fit," and hie term! are extremely moderate Give him a call. THE Pasonexte of New York oily, at Masonic Hall, continues a prominent object of attention in our city. It gives the audience a panoramic view, extending six miles through the thorough fares of New York; and so faithful to the orig inal is the representation, that no one acquaint• ed in the pity could hesitate for a moment to recognize its every feature. The relative size, form, color and position of the buildings are represented with graphic accuracy; and even the signs of the. business houses may be read with case. In your imaginkry journey through the streets, the various incidents of actual life are preserved with such astonishing fidelity that the beholder acquainted with the sconce repre sented needs no interpreter. It exhibits this afternoon at 3 o'clock, and this evening, and continues on exhibition on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next. COUNTRY Homes.—We are not aware of any location in this country more desirable for coun try seats than that beautiful and fertile place known as the "Greer Farm," on the Allegheny river, at the mouth of Plum Creek, which has been subdivided into lots of from ten to twenty acres, fronting on the river and the Allegheny Valley Railroad. It ie conceded that the 3oenory .n the Allegheny is the flueet in the Union, and this farm commands views which cannot be stir passed in the entire valley. A public sale by order of the Orphans' Court will be held on the premises on Tuesday next, the 18th inst., and a train of oars, which will convey persons to the grounds, will leave the Lawrenceville Station, at 10i o'olook, A.
