excursion party yesterday started at 9i
o'clOck; from the corner of Fifth and Liberty
stroeb4 in omnibuses for. Lawrenceville, where
we bend awaiting our arrival the iron horse
hitched to two beautiful railway carriages. We
left Lawrencerilleat precisely half-past ten, and
brproieling leisurely to give every ono an op
bortunity to sea as much as possible of the
eatifies - of the Allegheny Valley, yeached Free
pert" at one O'clock. This was just a reason
ably good -dinner hour, and tho , managers
seemed , also to think dqnst so '." for here, izt a
tame buildin building , intended; in the future to ex:corn
:if:date locomotives, we found a couple of large
tables groaning under a weight of the fat things
of Ate land. To say the guests partook of this
repast, would feebly describe the onslaught ,
made upon the roast beef, mutton, boiled ham,
Plontragaltela whisky, Oakes, pies, and all the
little et ceteras. This done, the whistle sound-
ed and all got again intd the care, and retnrninz,
&hived at home a little after five o'clock, in the
evening, in excellent condition, and, we believe,
every one in the moat perfect good humor.
This road. of which wo yesterday witnessed
the first link Perfected, is destined to be ono of
the great arteries of trade leading into Pitts

connect with the NeW York and Erie ; and
In view of this fact the latter corporation made
a very , heavy subscription to Its stook. But the

embarrassed in its fineness that the aforesaid sub-
soription was abandoned, and it is now we be- '
110.0 tke ,intention to Strike the Sunbury and
Erie near-Eidgway, in Elk county.
-IV° have not space nor time now to detail the
Imnterbse value of products which will find their
*ay to market through the medium of this road.
We will only say the Valley of the Allegheny, in
,agricultural resources, is one of the richest
in the State of Pennsylvania ; in minerals it is
eirett richer, and as en illustration wo may men
tion that for miles aleng tbo route the eremite

COWITSUATIOS or TUE LIQUOR CABS —The
Ulla of the Commonwealth vs. William Bennett,
WOO Continued yesterday morning, in the Court
of Quarter Sessions.
Dtt the opening of the Court, the defendant'B I
oonnael exhibited a license from the Treasurer
of Allegheny County, authorizing William Ben
nett to keep an eating saloon and beer house,
and said this was all the evidence they had to
offer. This license gives defendant the right to
Bell beer until April let, 1856.
8.. Biddle Roberts then, at some length, ad
dressed the jury on behalf of the Commonwealth.
He contended that the case had been clearly
proven, the evidence being sufficient to justify
the jury to find a verdict of guilty.
- Mr. Burke followed, for the defence. His ar
gument occupied nearly four hours in the de
livery, and the ingenuity, research and eloquence
diOployed will add much to the reputation of
that gentleman. He argued powerfully against
the constitutionality of the law, citing in sup
port of that position, numerous authorities and
decisions. lie also attempted to destroy the va
lidity of the , indictment, by showing that that
document did not specifically set forth the of
fence committed by defendant. It charged him
in general terms with selling "spirituous, vinous
and malt liquors, or admixtures thereof," with
out particularising which kind. This, Mr.
Burke contended was a vital defect. That the
offence was clearly, proven the gentleman like.
glee denied.
mt. A. W. Loomis next addressed the Jury for
defence. - also endeavored to show the un
constitutionality of the law, and made an able
and forcible argument near -three hours in
length.
Col. S. W. Black closed for the prosecution in
splendid speech, unanswerable in argument
and unsurpaseable in eloquence. It was un
doubtedly the finest address made at-the bar for
many years.
At the conclusion of the arguments, Court
adjourned until nine o'clock this morning, when
the Jadge'e charge will be delivered, and the
case sent to the Jury.

certain cure for FEVER AND AGUE.; Thie preparation
for the treatment of the above disease, and perfect eradica
tion of the came, is one of the most important Chemical
Discoveries of the 19th century. Da neutralising effects
on the poisonous gases are instantaneous, and acts like a
charm upon the whole Nervous and Muscular System, re
storing the tone:of the Stomach, and bitigorating the Con
attrition.
Unlike the general remedies rescrted to for its treatment, -
such as Quinine, Arsenic, hr:, which leave the system
worse than they found it, It improves the general health,
purifies the blood, and etimulates the different organs to a
regular and healthy action:
Being prepared under the immediate eupervision of en
eminent Chemist, uniformity of strength may always be
relied on. Its unprecedented demand, and the thousands
of testimonials from eminent Physicians, and others who
have been thoroughly cured, are a sullicient guarantee of
