The display of articles was quite respectable, both in number and variety. On Thursday afternoon a fantastic parade came off, which greatly contrib uted to the amusement of the vast concourse of people assembled on the grounds. On Friday the Wiles' riding match came off, and excited intense interest among the spectators. Six or eight ladies. entered the ring—but it was soon manifest that the content was narrowed down to between Miss Piohing, of Somerset, and Mrs. Bartholomew, of Freeport, Ps. The judges awarded the first premium to Miss Picking. This decision created a good deal of dissatisfaction among the spectators, as they seemed to think Mrs. .Bartholamew was the best rider. The batohelor editor of the Argus speaks thus of the , performance of both ladies: . " Miss Picking is a very graceful rider, but 1 we thick ehe has many equals in our commu nity. Bat for gracefulness, skill in mans dog a k horse, and daring feats, we have never seen the equal of Ws. Bartholomew outside of a circus. She sits "like a mate taking an airy stroll ' through ether on the back of Pegassus." TOSATIIS.—II will be observed by advertise ment in the amusement column, that Mr. Ben. nett will repeat the character of Sing John, in Shakapere's groat play of that name. On Thum day night, at the firat representation of this piece, the house was densely filled, and in con - ; sequence of the demand upon the Manager, Mr. ' B. hats consented to a repetition. He will on. doubtedly achieve as great a success to-night as on its previoua representation. His personation of the part of the weak minded, wicked and valsoillating king was as powerful a piece of act ing as we Over itltnesded, and was almost tines. sepal:amble to the most hyperariticaL His con ception was somewhat peculiar, but doubtless correct, and carried out with boldness and vigor.
