Kansas Election... Total Vote... Foreign
An intelligent friend and citizen ban permitted
ue to make the following copy of n letter be has
received from Kansas :
KANSAS, October 3, 1855.
Friend * * * *: You aro aware that Moo.
day lux was the day of election fixed by the
Legislature, at which the friends of Whitfield
voted, and that Tuesday next (October 9) is the
day fixed by the people's proclamation, and at
which the Free State men will vote, besides, in
all probability, some of the pro slavery men, as
the polls ore open to all, and delegates are to be
elected on the same day to the constitutional
convention.
A large number of voters from the adjoining
counties of Missouri came over on Monday, as
usual, and voted. This waa done with the more
ease, that the Free State party did not partici
pate in the election at all.
Some few parties from Missouri penetrated as
tar into the Territory as Lecompton, and report
eaye, voted at Lawrence, and Franklin as they
came back. But the principal foreign vote was
oast along tho river, and near to the State, espe
cially at Wyandot, Delaware, Leavenworth, At•
Chilton and Shawnee Churob. Wo anticipate a
largo foreign vote along the Osage and at Fort
Scott, but as yet have not heard. The eleo
tion, so far as beard from, passed off very
quietly, and without any manifestation of vio
lence or intimidation. Reports give the follow

back and forward to the election. At Wyandot
probably 160 to 200 foreign votes wore polled,
among whoa were some of the residents' of this
town.
At Lawrence a emall part, voted who oamo

Whom the testimony is so strong that he would

It appears that on Monday evening the body

having been killed by a gunshot wound. The
body was recognized and brought to town, and,

was also missing, and inquiry was made of his
91 friends in Baltimore without obtaining any in
1 formation in relation to hi O. In the meantime,
••• a German pedler was arrested on enspicon of
••• murdering Mr. Graf, and on soarohiug him the
watch and chain, pocket boo c, and clothing of
'l Dr. Hadel were found in his possession, leaving
no doubt as to his having met with the same
-• fate as his unfortunate young friend.
••• The murderer was arrested at 12 o'clock on
••• Monday night, and the most intense excitement
••• existed until daylight this morning, when a large
, 86 body of citizens started out to search for the
••• body of Dr. Hadel. The search was continued
••• until about 10 o'clock this morning, when the
•-• body was found in the mountains, horribly mutt
-36 lilted. He bad been stripped naked, his head
ant off from his body, and stabbed, besides the
••• msrk of having been shot through tho back of
•-• the nook. The head is still missing, and it is
••• supposed that the murderer has conceal° iit in
••• order to prevent the identification of the body.
63 It appears that the German pedlar who has
••• been arrested on the charge of being the per
• potrator of this horrible murder Is a stranger in
4 Cumberland, and has been boarding at a far
••• *mer's house by the name of Steel, near towu,
••• for some days past. On Sunday morning, be•
••• tween 8 and 10 o'clock, this stranger and the
••• doctor were seen going over the bridge in the
20 direction where the latter was murdered, and
••• Me. and Mrs. Steel say that this man called and
••• got his gun about that hour, and it is believed
••• he enticed the doctor out by telling him some
•• one was very ill, and shot him through the back
••• of his neck, as his coat, found io the possession
••• of the supposed murderer, bad the mark of a
••• bullet through the collar.
•• After murdering the doctor it is sup need be
returned to Steel's, as the latter says he brought
12 his gun back about no.n, and immediately start
-73 ed towards Cumberland. He was next seen in
••• the doctor's office, in Cumberland, by a gentle
-46 man who called there to enquire for the doctor.
Young Graf was then, with him, and on the gen•
Homan enquiring for the doctor, ho was told by
Graf that he was out In the mountains, and had
met with on accident, having fallen in the water.
It was supposed that the murderer had told
Graf this tale and that the doctor had sent
to him to bring him sonic dry clothes. The
murderer and Graf were seen in the afternoon
going in the same direction----Mr. Gr.( carrying
a bundle with him. Mr. Steel also stye that
this man, accompanied by Mr. Graf, came to his
house, and the man got his gun again, and they
went on up the mountain together. Two other
gentleman also say that they passed them to
gather on the mountain, and Ore minutes after
heard the report of a gun.
The body of Graf was found with a gun-shot
wound In the back, and he had been beaten over
the head, it is supposed, dying In a few mo•
moots. The Romped returned the gun and
the bundle which Graf bad with him, to Steel's
again, and left them there. His name is no
known.

much excitement in that city. It appears that
