Board of Health Motion.
INFORMATION has been made to the Board of Health
that cases of cholera occurring outside of the city have
been brought within its limits for relief. No doubt the
friends of the sick arc prompted by motives of humanity,
yet it is proper they should be informed that they subject
themselves to a severe penalty by so doing.
The Legislature passed laws regulating this matter, In
cases where the disease is malignant or contagious, id order
that the densely populated city may be protected from any
unnecessary scourge, which, when It boa gained a footing,
scarcely rests so long as tbero remains a subject for Its ro*
morfedesfl attack.
Thu Board of Health are determined to enforce the law.
If patients seized with cholera, or any malignant or coots
gious disease, outside the city, must be removed to any of
the Hospitals, persons conveying them thither mast have*
permit from the Board of Health,
The attention of aU persons interested Is called to the
following sections of an act approvod-Aprll 8,1862:
Sic. 6. That any master, commander, or other person
having charge of any vessel or steamboat, violating any of
the ruins or regulations prescribed by the said Board of
Health, under the provisions of this ac6*shall, upon convic
tion thereof, by indictment or prosecution in any court
having jurisdiction, pay a fine not exceeding five hundred
dollars, to be recovered and paid Into the treasury of ehM
Board of Health.
Bsc. 7. That whenever the Board of Health shall receive
Information that any malignant or contagious disease
(measles excepted) prevails within any port or place within
the United States, they shall make diligent inquiry contorn
ing the same; and if It shall appear that the disease prevails
as aforosald, all communication with snch infected port or
place shall be subject to such control and regulations as the
Board of Health may from time to time direct, ond publish
in on« or more newspapers published in the dty of Pitta-'
burgh; and thereupon every person or persons, and all
goods, wares and merchandise, bidding and clothing from
such infected port or place, and having entered and bees
brought into the city of Pittsburgh contrary to such regu
lations, shall be subject to the same penalties as is provided
for in the preceding section.
The penalties or the whole act will be strictly enforced.
