THE CITY POST.;
SATURDAY MORNING:::!:-SEPTEMBER 22.
Ibiahticide, —A great exoitement was kept
up yesterday, at the oorner o( Grant and First
Btreetß, by the discovery, early in the morning,
of the dead body of on infant in the privy o
Mr. M. BreidonthaL A servant girl, in looking
for a chicken whioh had jumped down into ttle
cess pool, observed the body floatLngontho enr
face. Information was eent to Cerener LOWI7
but as ho oonld not be found until late inithe
evening, the body was allowed to remain in its
disgusting resting plooe all day, muoh to the
satisfaction of a large number of gossipping
feraalos, who thus had full opportunity to grati
fy their prurient onrioaity.
By directions of the coroner the body was re
moved, about air o’olook, and an inquest held.
l)r. Arthurs also made a poet mortem examina
tion, when it was ascertained that it was the
remains of a female infant, about threo weeks
old. Around its nook a number of marks were
discovered, and the doctor gave as his opinion
that it had died of strangulation. No testimony
oonld bo olioited as to who it belonged to, or
how it came to be placed where it was found.
A Gorman servant girl In the employ of Mr.
Breidenthal testified that several days ago, about
daylight, ehe saw a woman in the yard near .the
privy, who ran off as soon as sho was observed.
The jury returned a verdict of “death from
strangulation, caused by some person unknown.”
