Tub Boetioui.tcb.ai. Faib. —Thousands of
our oitixena visited the horlionltural exhibition,
at City Hall; yesterday and the day previous.
Tho appearance of the Interior of the Hall, iB
enchanting, and the sight affords pleasure and
profit to all. Fairs of this kind are compara
tively new here, but notwithstanding are gotten
up with a taste inferior to none elsewhere. Our
nurserymen and amateur gardiners have almost
brought the art of bortioulture to perfection,
and the quality of the fruit and flowers raised
by them oannot be excelled, as the present ex
hibition abundantly proves.
Tho Fair will oontinuo open to-dey and to
night.
Yesterday the committee on awards made out

Attempt to Commit Suictdb —Chap. Dillon,
a mulatto man, was arrested this morning by
officer Moon, oharged by his wife with au ag
gravated assault and battery. A short time be
fore he was brought up for hearing, offioers
Bougher and Frost bad occasion to visit the
cells, when they discovered Dillon hanging
by the neok to one of the bars by his neck
kerchief, with life nearly extinct. Tboy cut
bim down, and by the use of proper restora
tives he recovered. But a fow moments
afterwards officer Bay went below and found
him attempting to take hia life by using
hia suspender to choke himself with. Aftor*
wards he was again discovered making a
third attempt on his life. He had taken off his
shirt, tied a knot on the skirt, and fastened it to
the floor, then tied the sleeves tightly around
his neck, and was attempting to imitate the lu
dia Rubber man by twisting himself into all
sorts of shapes, so as to tighten his neok tie.
Failing iu the third attempt to destr y himself,
ho concluded to desist for tho present, but said
he would not be in jail four hours until he hod
accomplished his end in killing himsolf. Rom
‘ was the cause. He was sent to jail for ton days.
A Supposed BunaLAn Abrrstrd — About (en
days ago tbe house of Mrs. Robinson, at Brad
dock’s Field, was entered and robbed by burg
lars. Amongst tbe property stolen was a cert!
fleato of deposit for $l9O. On Wednesday, a
negro named Johnston oamo into the Back rf
Pittsburgh and presented this certificate to one
of tho officers of the bank. Knowing the oertiti
cate had been stolen, ho vory quietly sent for a
police officer and bad Johnson arrested. He
was taken to the Mayor's effioe and locked op
a ••til yesterday, when be was committed to jail
for trial.
