Office and Post Office are located here. The Mississippi and

UNITED STATES MILITARY ROAD,
now in course of construction, connecting with St. Paul,
terminates at this place. It Is also the Ite&e termini of all
the projected railroads to the head of Lake Superior. The
w 8oo" canal will be opened in June; after which, four
lines of Lake Steamers will run to Superior—one from Chi
cago. two from Cleveland, and one from Buffalo; all fine
vessels, haring been built expressly for this trade.
One Steam Saw Mill is now in operation, and the machi
nery for a second Is now on the way to Superior, which will
be set to work immediately on its arrival.
One-half of the lots have been appropriated by the pro
prietors to be sold by the undersigned to actual settiere on
easy terms, to provide a fund for extensive public improve
meats. liberal appropriations have been made for public
purposes; porks, churches, railroads, Ac. Ac.

INFORMATION has been made to the Board of Health
that cares of chclera occurring outside of the city have
been brought within its limits for relief. No doubt the
Crionds of ihe sick are prompted by motives of humanity,
jet it is proper they should be informed that they subject
themselves to a severe penalty by so doing.
The Legislature passed laws regulating thin matter, Id
eases where the disease is malignant or contagious, In order
that the densely populated c'ty may be protected from any
unnecessary scourge, which, when it has gained a footing,
scarcely rests sc long as (bars remains a subject for its re
morseless attack.
Tbe Board of Health ore determined to enforce the law.
If patients Paired with cholera, or any malignant or conta
gions disease, outride tbe city, must bo removed to any of
iho Unfipitais, persons conveying them thither must have a
permit from tbe Board of Health.
Tbe attention of all interested is callrt.l to tbe
following sections of an act approved April B, 1b62 :
Sic. 0. That any muter, commander, or other person
having charge of any vessel or steamboat, violating any of
the rules or regulations proacribod by tile said Board of
Health,under the provisions ot this act,shall, upon convic
tion thereof, by indictment or proseculioo in any court
baring jurisdiction, pay a fine not exceeding five hundred
dollars, to be recovered and paid into the treasury of said
Board of Health.
Bxe. 7. That whenever the Be ini of Health shall receive
Information that an; malignant or contagious
(measles excepted) prevails within any port or placewithin
the United States, they shall make diligent inqniry concern
ing the same; and if it shall appear that the disease prevails
as aforesaid, all communication with such infected port or
place shall be subject to such control end regulation* as the
Board of Health may from time to time direct, and publish
in one or more newspapers published In the city of Pitts
burgh , and thereupon every person or persons, and &1I
goods, wares and merchandise, bedding and clothing from
such Infected port or place, and bsTing entered and been
brought into the city of Pittsburgh contrary to such regu
lations, shall be subject to the same penalties as is provided
for in the preceding section.
The penalties of the whole act will be strictly enforced.
