MJE CITY POST.
SATURDAY MORNING:
Tm Cbom.—We are happy to state, from
personal observation made daring tho past two
weeks in the northern part of Ohio, that, the
ramors prevalent: here, and elsewhere, relative
to the damage done to the crops, are mainly
destitute of troth. The rains through the upper
portion of Ohio have been nearly as continuous,
and almost,as violent, ‘os In this neighborhood,
bnt notwithstanding, have not cffeotod any great
damage to the grain orop. In many sections the
wheat was all ant and:‘'shocked,” previous to
the setting in of the wet weather; and where
the shooks were well covered, no damage at all
was done, except to the top sheaves. We heard
many intelligent farmers through Stark, Wayne,
Blohlaud, Ashland, Huron, and other conntlea
near the lake, assert that the crop wonld ave
rage from twenty to thirty bushels of good wheit
to the aore. The oorn nearly everywhere looks
well, and ah Immense orop is anticipated. On
Borne farms, where the ground is low, the eeed
was washed out, and had to be eet over again:
but even in ouch places, although late, the yield
wdl be good. A great deal of the oats is still
unont, bat if no more rain ooonre until it is
gathered, will be a splendid orop. As for pota
toes, the supply will be so abundant that many
ara already entering into oontraots to
sen at nfteen.and twenty cents per bushel.
of a few days the new wheat
wui be threshed, and thrown into market, when
a fall in tho prloe of flour must oertainly take
plaoe.

PassnsTaTioN ai Rochester. —The presen*
tation of a beautiful flag to the steamer “Ro
chester,” by the ladies of Roohester, Pa., took
plaoe on Tuesday morning, August 7ih, on the
arrival of the boat from Pittsburgh.
The flag was presented on behalf of tho ladies
by R. T. White, Esq., in a neat and appropriate
speech, which was responded to by George W.
Neare, Esq., commander of tho “Rochester,”
after whloh' M. T. C. Qould, Esq, presented two
finely exeouted lithographio views of that “ pros
pective oity,” in his peouliar impromptu etyle.
At tho close of the speaking, all those present
adjourned to Capt. Noaro’s fine boat, where a
bountiful and exoellent oollation was prepared
by the owners of Jhe boat.
A large number of ladies graced the occasion
with theirpresenoe, and altogether it was a most
pleasant gathering.
