Mr. Cordell presented a bill of R. E. M’Gowin
for $541,00, and was authorized to
draw his warrant for the amount.

Pittsburgh Gas ' Company, which was read and

Special Committee, relative to the right of Al
len Cordell to a seat in tho Select Connoil: re
porting that tbo said Allen Cordell is at the
present timo incompetent to 6erve as a member,
holding the otfioe of Superintendent of the Dia
mond Market Houses. Report read and oceep-

Ward relative to permitting a house belonging to
Patrick Keefe, which extends ten inohos into

extension of gas pipes, in order to introduce the

oommittee relative to reward olaimed for the
arrest of Lambert; when, on motion of Mr.

condemning the removal of Mr. Reeder u a wrong etep of
the Administration In the present condition of affairs, and
as it will famish unprincipled fanatics with the means of
fanning the flame of sectional discord.
The steamer Isabel, C&pt.Rollins, from Havana, via. Key
west and Charleston, arrived here last night, and brings
Havana dates to the 26th.
The cholera had made its appearance there, and name*
rous deaths had occurred from It among the military and
the Sisters of Charity at the Hospital. There were none,
as yet, among private cltlxens.
Another batch of political offenders had been disposed of,
some being sentenced to banishment to Spain, and others
to Africa.
A detachment of 270 additional troops had arrived from
Spain.
Key Wert was healthy, and there was no fever.
Latest From Havana,
Charleston. 8.0, July 28.—The steamship Isabel arrived
to-day from Havana, bringing dates to the 26th Inst. The
cholera was raging at Havana, and numerous deaths oc
curred among the military. Several citirens have also
died, and great alarm prevailed.
Offarel, an extensive planter, is reported to have failed
for near two millions of dollars.
Georia, tbo friend of Pinto, had been arrested and im
prisoned for being connected In making a bus; of tbo
latter.
Boston, July 81.—At the adjourned meeting of the Stock
holders of tbe Easton Railroad to-day, a report of the Spe
cial Committee was read, warmly debated and finally adop
ted. Tho defalcation of the late Treasurer, Tuckerman,
was found to amount to $246,000. The Committee speak
encouragingly of the prospects of the road, and rikke vari
ous suggestions for a more economical management to
guard ag&iust fraud. A new Board of Directors vac cho
sen and tbe meeting adjourned.
Tho Yellow Favor tn Virginia.
Norfolk, July SI-—The yellow fever continues its rava
ges In this city. There are twenty cases to-day and four
deaths. Iu Portsmouth sixty oases twenty-tdx deaths.
There is great excitement In the community ; the infected
districts have been fenced iu, aod occupants removed.
Tne U. B. frigate, Potomac, Bailed on Saturday. Tho
Constellation dropped down to the naval anchorage yester
day.
Sudden Death at Gape Slay
Philadelphia, July 30.—A daughter of Judge Porter, of
Easton, Penna., died suddenly at Capo May, on Saturday
last. Tho day previous ehe was in the surf bathing, and
appeared in robust health. Boon after reaching her hotel,
after the bath, she was attacked bv cramps, and died a*
above stated. ‘
Ravages of the. Cholera.
Philadelphia, July 31—The cbolern has mado its ap
pearance at flavre de Grace, Md., and several deaths occur
red. Four deaths in one family are reported. The operator
in the Telegraph office and three or hia children have been
swept off by the disease, and the office is closed.
The W’beeler Slave Case.
Nxvr York, July 31 —lt Is reported here to-day that the
female slave of Mr. Whealer is now In this city, and that
Bne avors that no force was used to carry her off, but on the
contrary that she had previously intimated to others her
desire for freedom, and solicited assistance in that behalf.
Defaulter In a Wall Street Dank.
Nrw York, July Sl.—lt Is rumored tbit a cashier of a
Wail street Bank, and also an officer in tb* Cltv Govern
ment, l a a defaulter in a Fum varying from £25,000 to $lOO.-
000. The particulars hare not transpired.

Fob Louisvills.—The new steamer “ Grapeahot,” Capt. A
M'Bride, will leave this morning, at 10 o’clock, for the
above and intermediate ports. She offers n fine opportuni
tv to those traveling in that direction.
Ws learn by a telegraph despatch, that the steamer
“ Kentucky Home ’’ was mnk on Monday night by coming
in collision with the Bteamer “ Telegraph,” between Cin'
clnnatl and Louisville. Tbo despatch did not give pattica
lars, os the wiroa were not in good working order.
Thru mammoth shafts have been contracted for by
Mes3fs. Fosseit A Co. of the West Point Forge. They are
to measure each 37 feet in length by 8)4 Inches in diameter,
and 9 Inches in the journals. These shafts are intended for
steamers now building to ply between PHtsbnrgh, Ht. Louis
and New Orloans.
T«i One new steamer c: Reliance,” Capt. S. 0. Young, will
leave on her maiden trip for Cincinnati to-day. She is
light draught, and fully equipped to fill the requirements
