They hove not only received the highest marks of appro bation from the beet European Pianists, such as LIST, THALBERO, And others, who have them constantly in their own use, but also front our resident Professcirs. The following is an extract from a letter of PROFESSOR HENRY ROIIBOCK. After describing the particular style two of which ho wauts for his own no—one Grand and one Square--he ipeeks es follows of their excellent qualities: "My littledaughter, who yilayscrory welt, must, with my self, hero a good iontrument, and yours are the on.y ones hick can satisfy me. A FEW days fifties, I published an advertisement of my ileilliCko PLitioS, in Which act extract from a letter from Prof. H. Itohbock, of this city, addressed to Messrs. llaumgarten & Helms of Homburg, the manufacturers, was inserted. This morning 1 observed in several of the daily papers a "Notice," signed by Prof. R., in which he states that I was unauthorised to make use of it, and that it Nitlfl incorrectly stated and applied. In reply—l presumed that if he had written the letter, he, of course, meant what was therein contained, and con sequently required no authority from him to make the same public. As regard, the assertion as to its incorrect- Hess, I have the letter in my possession, and it speaks fox itaeli, word for 'word as I have published. Messrs. Baum garten & Ileitis are not dependant upon- Mr. Itohbock for endorsement—their Pianos were known, appreciated and received the highest commendations from the first artists, long before Prof. It. saw fit to pass an opinion upon them. My reason for publishing the extract was in the fact that ha was well known in the city, and not be ease his recom mendation was necessary to establish the merit of the Pianos. In conclusion, I may add that they stand on their own merit, and are endorsed by such men as List, 'f balberg, and others, solely on account of their merit. mh23 CHARLOTTE BLUALE. NOTICE. IN an advertisement of Mrs. Blume, in this paper, my name is made use of in connection with the Hamburg Pianos. Buch use is unauthorized by me, and, moreover, the matter le incorrectly Mated and misapplied. 'She facts are these: About a year ago I wrote to Baumgarten & Heins, Piano makers in Hamburg, (Germany,) for a Piano et d new and peculiar construction, and of which I furnish. ed a minute description. They replied that they did not manufacture any such, and requested me to examine a Piano of their make sent '.o -Mrs.. flume, at the same time offering to furnish me With aalmilar one, In mse I liked it. I accordingly examined the instrument, but as it did not please me, I declined purchasing of them. I have Blare bought and am now using a Piano from the factory of Nunes&Clans, N. Y. [FROM WASHINGTON DINING'S LIFE OF GEORGE WASHINGTON.] [CONCLUDED 3 • There was a sharp firing on both sides at first. Several of the enemy fell; among there their leader; but a murderous fire broke out from among trees and a ravine on the right, 'and the woods resounded with unearthly whoops and yellings. The Indian rifle wise at work, leveled by unseen hands. Most of the grenadiers and many of the pioneers were shot down. The survivors were diiveti in on the advance. Gage ordered his men to fix bayonets'and form in order of battle. They did so in hurry and trepidation. He.would have scaled a hill on the right whence there was the severest firing. Not a platoon would quit the lino"of rearoh. They were more dismayed by the yells than by the rifles of the unseen savages. The latter ex• tended themselves along the hill and in the ra vines; but theie whereabouts was only known by their demoniac cries and the puffs of smoke from their rifles. The soldiers fired Wherever they, saw the smoke. Their officers tried In vain to restrain them until they should see' their foe. All orders were unheeded; in their fright - They shot at random, killing some of their own flank ing parties, and of the vanguard, as they came running in. The covert fire grew more intense. In a short time most of the offioers atilt really of the men of the advance were killed or wontided. Colonel Gage himitelf received a wound. The advance fell back in dismay upon Sir john St. Clair's corps, which was equally dismayed. The cannons belonging to it were deserted. Colonel. Burton had come up with tho rein forcemente, and was forming his men to.fae.e the rising ground on the right, when: both of the advanced detachments fell back upon hite,, and all now was confusion. By this time the general was upon thegreund. He tried to rally the men. "Thny would Eight," they said, "if they could see their enemy; but it. is useless to fire at trees and bushes, iind they could not stand to be shot down' by an invisible foe." Tho colors were advanced in different places to separate the men of the two regiments. The general ordered the officers to form the men, tell them off into small divisions, and advance with them; but the soldiers could not be preisiled upon either by threats or entreaties: The Vir ginia troops, accustomed to the - Indiare 'mode of fighting, scattered themselves, and' took: post be hind trees, where they could pick off the lurk ing foe. In this way, they, in sem° degree, pro- _ tected the regulars. Washington advised Gene ral Braddock to adopt the same plan with the regulars ; but he persisted in forming them into platoons; consequently they wore 1,11C:dowel .; from behind logs and trees as fast at they - could advance. Several attempted to take to the trees without orders, but the general stormed at them, called them cowards, and even struckthem with the flat of his sword. Several of the . _ ens, who bad taken post and were doing good service in this manner, were slain_by the fire of the regulars, directed wherever a imokaappear ed among the trees. The officers behaved. with consummate brave ry; and Washington beheld with admiration those who, in camp or on the march, had ap peared to him to have an almost effeminate re gard'for personal ease and convenience, now ex posed to imminent death, with . a courage that kindled with the thickening _h*orrord''.ln the vain hope of inspiriting the men to drive eff tho enemy from the flanks and regain the cannon, they-would dash forward singly 'or in'grottea. They were invariably shot down ; for the In dian aimed from their coverts at every one on horseback, or who-appeared to have-command. Some were killed by'random shot of their own moo, who, crowded in masses, fired with af frighted rapidity, but without-aini. . Soldiers in the front ranks were killed by those.in.the rear. Between friend and foe, the slaughter was terri ble. All this while the woods resounded with the unearthly yeltiogs of the savages, and • now and then, one of them, hideously painted, and ruffling with feathered crest, would rush forth to scalp an officer who had fallen, or -siezo a horse galloping wildly without Aarider . Throughout this _disastrous day, Washington • distinguished himself by the courage and pres ence of mind. His brother aids, „Orme and Morris, were wounded and disabled early in the action,- and the whole duty of- carrying the or ders Of the general devolved on him- His dan ger was imminent and Incessant: He was in every part of. the field, a conspicuous:mark for . the murderous rifle.. Two horses were abet un der him. Four bullets pressed through his coat. His escape without a wound was , almost udrac alone. Dr. Craik, who was on the, field attend ing to. the wounded, watched him. with aaxi-• sty as he rode about in the most exposed man ner, and used to, say that be eipeoteCovery moment to see him fall.. At cue time bp was sent to the main body to bring the artillery into action. All there was likewise 41 eanfueiga ; far the Indians had nxtended themselves -along the ravine so as to flank the reserve„,-ated carry slaughter into their ranks. Sir-.Feler,Halket had been shot down nt.the head of hia.regiment. The men who should have served the guns were paralyzed. Had they raked the ravings with grape-shot, the day might have been saved. In his ardor, Washington sprang from, his horse; wheeled and pointed a brass field .plen. with his own hand, and directed an effective discharge into the woods.; but neither his efforts leer ex ample ,were of avail. The men could not be kept to the guns. Braddock still remained in the centre of the field, in the desperate hope of retrieving the fortunes of the day. The Virginia rangers, who had been most efficient in covering his position, were nearly all killed or wounded. His 'Here tory, Shirley, had fallen by his side. Many of his officers had been slain within his sight, and many of his guard of Virginia light horse. Five horses had been killed under him; kill he kept his ground, vainly endeavoring to ,oheak (the flight of his men, or at least to effect their re treat in good order. At length a inellet, passed . through his right arm, and lodged .itaelf .in his Wage. lie felt from his horse,. but was caught by Captain Ste Wart, of 'the . The rout now becamecotapleite:. Bciggage, stores, artillery, everything was, abandoned. The wagoners took each a, horse out of his team and fled. The officers were swept off .with the men in this headlong .flight. NTEl:Eiieildered more precipitate by the shouts and yells of the savages, numbers-of whoni. rushed forth, from their coverts; and pursued the fugitires to the river side, killing, several as thief dashedacroe o in tumultuous confusion.
