JULE°, .1,1,u DaLL, Ari.ter soo, 004 THE EDITOR of the Journal sta•cd a few day: ago that the detachment of [ S troops which passed through here last week under command of Gem littcheock were on their way to Kansas. This is oct correct, as they wero destined for Fort St. Pierre, in Nebraska Territory, on the Missouri river, at the mouth of Schi;lok or 13ad river, about,Boo miles at ose Fort L."aven. worth, in the heart of the Sioux country. The fort named it; a trailing p,st of the , Saier:,:in Fur Company, and the object of sending out the troops is to establish a aea onditary poor there, or in the vicinity, to keep tho Stour. in dialog in subje.ction. For the b Lam purpose the garrisons of Fort Laramie and Kearney are to no reinforced, and four ec.toponies of dragc.,tis will be employed in proteeiitg the frint:er Set tlements of Kansas and Nebratha. The force commanthrd by Brigadier 0,-neral Hitchcock will be locaLd in the heart of the country of the Sioux implicated in the difficulties on the Platte river. These youths and half grown men inveigle into their midst many well disposed but weak minded boys, who quickly become 1i •lons and depr o;e•J from the bad example set, and in the end turn out as bad as the others. It is irni i tit le for the police to keep the earners clear, a, the force is not large enough; but if the CWZ-Ill! who live adjacent would make information at the Mayor's Office against some of the worst of these boys— the ringleaders of the crowd—that r:atnples mighty be made out fof them, a es dutary refor mation could be effected. S. W. ROBERTS, Superintendent Mss DROWNED.—Yesterday morning, a large raft, loosened - by the rise in the Allegheny, came down the river, with but a single man on board, and struck against one of the piers of the old Allegheny bridge, where it broke in two, one part lodging on the pier, and the other floating off with the man. When opposite the mouth of the canal, this portion went to pieces, and before assistance could be rendered, the in divnal fell into the water and was drowned. Where he came from, or who he was, of course could not be ascertained. 4`-~~- '~ 1 {- ~`~' • . 4 , ORM JUICE 9 Jut. 1 3.lelourtio.
