FOSTER: —Mrs. Foster, wife of the manager, aid an actress of rare 'talents and accomplishments, offers her name for a benefit this evening. Tho "Rivals," one of the tweet English comedies in the drama, w1)1 be produced. Other attractions, for which we refer the reader to the advertise ment in another column, will also bo performed. Every lover of the drama in our city, and particularly those who admire genuine merit and modesty in the portraiture of dramatic char acter, are aware of the claims of Mrs. Foster to their consideration and support. Unlike the generality of actresses, she is not confined to a single lino of business ; she is equally clear in everything she undertakes, and never disap points the reasonable expectations of her friends, no matter how arduous the teak imposed upon her. One who labors so diligently and success fully, to please, as she does, should have the sympathy and applause of all who delight in the higher walks of the drama. Unless we are mach mistakcn.in our estimate of the gallantry and taste of our people; Mrs. Foster will have this evening ono of the most intelligent and fashionable audiences of the season. One thing we are sure of, she is eminently deserving of all the consideration the play goers of our city can bestow upon her. Tue. BATEMAN CITILDELEN, 88 they are termed in the bills, ended a two weeks' engagement at our Theatre on Saturday evening, to a tolera bly fair house. At the conclusion of the drama entitled " Young America," there were loud calls for Mr. Dubois, who playact the part of Evrington, and a much less general one for the Satemans. This was answered by the curtain being raised, exposing to view the entire com pany in the last scene of the play. The cause of this rather unusual proceeding is supposed to be in consequence of a call for Mr. D. on the previous night, without a similar compliment be ing extended to the little stars ; so, to prevent any invidious distinctions, it was thought proper to divide the honors among the actors generally. Considering the unfavorable season for theatri ,7als in this as in every other city of the UM on, miss Rate and Ellen have had a profitable en gagement. This, we believe, is their last ap pearance any stage, at least Mr. Bateman so announced b,:foro the curtain a few evenings since. A wag at our elbow suggests the reason of this to be beeauski nun of "I"tmg ladies is " engaged" to play if'.part in the " Young Couple" for an unlimited number of nights ARREST or BURCLADS.—Ou-' readers will re collect a burglary perpetrated .`t the house of Mr. Samuel Shriver, in Allecbeny, ofew dhys ago. Two fellows, named Samuel 'l,."ais and James Graham,. were euspeted of being th," r° l3- hers, and a trap was set by the police officers o .f this city, for their capture. It wee ascertaineet . that they would be in this city on Friday night, and by _request the Allegheny police intercepted them at the bridge, as they were coming over, and locked them in the Tombs until Saturday morning, when they were brought to this side of the river. Among the article's stolen from Mr Shriver, were two valuable coats. These w. re afterwards sold to a person in this city, who recognized Teats and Graham as the individuals from whom he ,purchased them. This evidence being deemed sufficient to connect them with tee robbery, they were both remanded to jail far trial. • Teats and Graham are supposed to belong to the gang of burglars who have been so busy in our city and neighborhood lately , and consider able credit is duo to High Constable Richard son and officer Noon for their efforts in arresting them. Wool Market and the Prospect or the The Ohio State Journal states a wool sale made at New York, May lith, of 160,000 ibs. The price of :inwards. ed ranged from 1114 cents per pound and upwards. For washed. mostly coroners and onetourth blood, the price we' 37i.; cents per pound. The Journal adds: In this market the price at the opening will range from 3to 6 cents per pouts i less than that of last year. Sessions & Harris have already bought about 5000 pounds' at from 18 to 30 cents per pound. Fer extra the prices range higher. It the season proves good for crops, and money becomes more plenty, the price of wool will Incrense probably beyond that of lest year. But this Is mere guess work." We are inclined to think it is guess work. The wool market, without doubt, exhibits a healthy feo, sad prices apparently tend upwards; but we do not think present prime will be maintained. On the contrary, we should say that it is the prevailing impression among those who should be well informed upon the subject, that prices must decline, inasmuch as for months past, the medium and lower grades of woolen goods hare met with a slow sale, at rates which must nett a heavy loss to the amputee. turer—and the stock is now heavier then at this period for many years Peat. A number of the mills at the east have recently ceased operations, In conseluence of the dispar ity of prices, and these facts Indicate that it will not be long before a considerable decline is experienced. Another fact is well worthy of mention—and that Is, theta large amount rf the old slip Is still held, and this coming forward with the new will undoubtedly have n ten dency to depress the market. It Is not likely that the speculative spirit which bee heretofore prevailed will occur this year, as most of those engaged in those operations the part two years came out at the emptiest end of the horn. As far as we can ascertain, the supply of wool this year will be much larger than during lan season. It is true that a large number of the animals from which we derive the article have died of dioesse, and the wool growers of this State, of Western Pennsylvania, Virginia, and other States. have suffered much Ines In consequence; but it is also certain that for this reason A far less number than rpm el have been killed for their hide and tallow. 'Hasid., many of the wool growers are in neeeseltoue circumstanree. Owing to the scarcity and high prices of provisions, they here been compelled to spend large sums for the pur. e hese of necessary funds, and will be Induced to Fend the;' wool to market earlier than usual, to replenish [bra funds.
