Oa motion, Council adjourned BRITTAL ATTEMPT TO VIOLATE TOE PERSON or A YOUNG LADY. —The particulars of a brutal attempt to violate the person of a young lady belonging to this city, on Thursday evening last, near East Liberty, transpired yesterday. Oa Thursday morning a young lady, named Miss Wilson, in company with a female friend, left this city to attend a Pic NM party near Miners wills. Towards evening, through a mutual ao• quaintanae, she was introduced to a fellow whose name is Carrel. After a few common place remarks with his new acquaintance, be invited her and the other lady to come with him and get a glass of lemonade. They all proceeded off in company, and each of them drank a glass of some kind of liquid, which tasted like the bev erage mentioned, but which Miss Wilson de Blares semi-intoxicated her. Currel then men tiooed that he had a buggy there, and offered to convey her home. Miss Wilson consented to go Keith him, and soon after be drove up with his Ate.hicle, and she got in. After leaving the Pie - Nie s ground, instead of bringing her into town by the usual route, he drove out towards East ;Liberty, telling her he would come in that way. Soon after passing through East Liberty, and when night bad closed in, he turned cif from the turnpike road down a lane, leading to the 'little hamlet of Hatfield. The road is very (lonely and secluded, and while in the most re fired part, Carrel attempted to take some gross liberties with the person of his companiot. She offered resistance, and screamed violently, but he persisted in his villainous intention, and in the contest threw her out of the buggy. II e then jumped out, caught ber by the hair, and a severe struggle ensued between the two. Al though weak and delicate, the outrageous assault on her virtue, seemed to have given her super human strength, and she offered the most des perate resistance. Her hair was pulled out by handfuls; the rings forced from her ears; nearly the whole of her clothing torn off; and her per son frightfully lacerated by being dragged over the ground; but so determined was her inten• tion not to allow the fellow to accomplish his purpose that, after struggling for nearly--, be finally desisted, On promising to molest her no farther, be then induced her to get into the buggy again ; and, about ten o'clock at night, brought her se far as the tavern of Mr. James Watson, on the Lawrenceville road, near the toll gate, where ho left her, stating to Mr. Watson that he hal met with au upset on the road, which caused Miss Wilson's injuries. She being by this time in an insensible state, was taken into the house and proper restoratives applied, but before she recovered consciousness sufficient to tell her story, Carrell drove off in his buggy at a rapid gait. The poor young lady was kindly cared for by Mrs. Watson, (who proved herself a "good Sa maritan,") and every attention paid her. In the morning, intelligence of the occurrence was sent to a brother of Miss Wilson, and ho started out and brought his ill-used sister In. We under stand she still remains very ill. The ear rings, clothing, &0., torn from the girl, w re found next morning, by the neigh bors, scattered along the road, and were taken to the office of Justice Gary, in Lawrenceville. We believe no legal information has been made against the Scoundrel who attempted the perpetration of so vile a crime, but we hope he may yet be arrested and punished. We under stand he was formerly an omnibus driver, and at present drives hack. MAY 31 Txsentn.— The pathetic drama entitled " Young America ; or the New York Newsboy," was produced last evening before a densely packed audience, who showed their approba tion of its merits by an unusual degree of ap plause. Miss Ellen Bateman played the hero of the piece, the little Newsboy, and, together with her sister, was called out at the end of the performance. Mr. Dubois was also called out for the excellent way in which he enacted Mr. Evrington. Young America will be again per formed to-night. We took occasion the other day to notice this valuable compound in the above terms, and now republish what was then said, to show sgaln our favorable opinion of it. The foregoing is taken from the Petersburg (Virginia) infeliigemeer, and refers to an article which has for a time been advertised In our columns. We must confess that we have been somewhat sceptical as to the remarkable effects attributed to this famous "flair Restorer." But our in. credulity has been greatly shaken within a day or two by seeing a couple of certificates of well-known and perfectly credible citizens of the neighboring town of Preston—one of them the Captain of a New London whaling ship—to the effect that, Iti each of these eases, a two or three months' use of the " Restorer" had actually brought out a new and vigorous growth of hair upon the head where it was before bald—the baldness being, in one case, of more than twenty years standing. Wdo not suppose it is by any means cer tain that, because the application has been thus sureesaful in one case, or two, or a doses, it Is therefore certain to prove equally successful in all. But with such head-strong evidence as the foregoing, very few bald limb, we suspect, would willingly forego a fair trial of the "Restorer."
