Alexan der,: Allen; Sitwell, Cordell, Jones, Murdoch, Pollock, Smyth, Taylor, Weaver, and president. The. minutes of last meeting read and ap proved. Mr. Taylor presented the credentials of Chas. Cheney, member eleot of the Fifth Ward, which was read, and, on motion of Mr. Alexander, ap proved." The member eleot was then sworn in by Ald. -liPMasters, and took his seat. . Mr. Jones presented a petition from the Pitts burgh and Birmingham Ferry Company relative to the filling up of the channel at the landing. Read and referred to Committee on Monongahela Wharf, with power to act, provided it does not exceed $50,00. Mr. Cheney, petition for gas mains on Liberty street, between Harrison .and Carson streets, Fifth Ward. Read and referred' to Committee on Gas Lighting. Mr. Alexander presented a communication from John Algeti relative to damage done his property lip grading of streets, and asking re muneration for the same. Read and referred to Committee on Streets. Mr. Jones, petition from the citizens of the Third Ward, protesting against the removal of tho Allegheny Fire Company from the said Ward. Read and referred to -Committee on Fire Ea• gines and Hose. The President submitted a communication from Wm. Forsyth, wharf master, relative to rent due from the Penneylvania Railroad Com pany for Depot on the wharf. - Read and referred to City Solicitor with instructions to proceed to collect the rent in arreaie. Mr. Murdock presented a communication from A. B. td'Calmont, City Solicitor,latire to suits pending in the District Court ainst the sureties of Mr. Haggarty, late Ta —Collector. Read and the. City Solicitor instruct6d to pro ceed forthwith against the sureties of Mr. Hag gerty, late Tax Collector. Mr. Bissell presented the following resolu tion : Resolved, That the City Treasurer be, and he is hereby authorized (under the direction of the Finance Committee) to sell the eighty shares of dividend stock now held by the City, in the Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroad Company, and that the proceeds be specifically applied towards the July interest on City Bonds. Read three times and passed. Mr. Murdock. Resolved, That the gas mains be laid on the north side of Franklin street, from Logan to Elm street. Read and referred to Committee on Gas Lighting. Mr. Murdock. Resolved, That the committee be and -is hereby authorized to issue proposals for the grading and paVing of Clark street, from Elm street to the junction of Scott and Colwell streets, about 140 feet. Read and referred to committee on Streets. _Mr. Taylor. Resolved, That the Mayor be and he is hereby authorized to draw his warrant on the Treasurer, in favor of John A. Parkin son, Judge of the special election held In the Fifth Ward, for the purpose of filling the vacan cy occasioned by the resignation of Win. Wilson, member of the Select Council. Read three times and passed. In all of which action of Select Council, Com mon Council concurred. Wallace, for press for Mayor's Office. Read, and the Mayor authorized to draw a warrant for the amount. Bill of .J. R. Hartley, for ice, amounting to $12,12. Read, and referred to Committee on Claims and Accounts. _Petition for water pipes on Wide alley, from Logan to ,Tewneend street. Read and referred te 'Water'Committee. Petition for grading and paving Congress street, from Pennsylvania Avenue to Franklin Street: Read, and referred to Committee on Bireetb. Resolutions relative to the expense of open ing Fifth street to Pennsylvania Avenue; and also the expense of continuing Pennsylvania Avenue from Chatham street to the junction of Grant and Fifth streets. Road three times and passed. Resolutions relative to the abutments of the bridges on Duquesne Way. Read and referred to-Committee on Streets. 'Communication from Joseph Howarth, asking the pritilego of erecting a frame shed for a workshop on Diamond street, with a resolution granting the same. Read, and the resolution unanimously adopted. Bill of J. IV. Biddle, for printing Mayor's Proclamation, $5,25. Read, and referred to Committee on Claims and Accounts. In all of which action of Common Council the Select Council concurred in. Resolution for extension of sewer on o'llars street. In Common Council read three times and passed. In Select Council action non-con curred in. Resolution relative to Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroad Company, which, in Common Council, read three times and passed. In Select Council, notion non-concurred in. The President announced that he had appoint ed Mr. Cheney, in place of Mr. Wilson, on the Street and Market committees, and Mr. Taylor -on the Fire Engines and Hose. Mr. Jones presented the following : Resolved, That the City Treasurer be request ed to make oat and lay before Councils, at their next meeting, full statements of all accounts on which there are balances due the city for over one year. Read three times and passed. Mr. Taylor. Resolved, That the committee on Aqueduct and Canal are hereby authorized to extend the sower on O'Hara street, the proper distance, and charge the same to the aqueduct fund.
