They have not only received the highest marks of appro.

but also from our resident Professors. The following is an
extract from a letter of
PROFESSOR HENRY ROHBOCR.
After describing the particular style, two of which be
wants for his own use—one Grand and one Square—he
speaks as follows of thilr excellent qualities:
" My little daughter, who playa rery wet:, must, with my.
self, have a good instrument, and yours are the on,y ones
while can satisfy me.
1 " Instruments are offered me on the mod accommodating
terms. I, however, do not like them; they have not the
elastic touch and the tone of yours.

A FEW days since, I published an advertisement of my
i1A110111 , 3 therms, in which an extract from a letter
from Prof. H. Rohbook, of this city, addressed to Messrs.
Baumgarten & Heins, of Hamburg, the manufacturers,
was inserted. Thin morning I observed in several of the
daily papers a " Notio ," signed by Prof. It, in which he
Mates that I was unauthorized to make nee of it, and that
it was incorrectly Mated and applied.
In reply—l presumed that It he hod written the letter,
be, of course, meant what was therein contained, and con
sequently required no authority from him to make the
same public. As regard+ the assertion es to its incorrect
ness, I have tbe letter in my pessesaion, and it speaks for •
it,elf, word for word as I have published. Messrs Baum
garten .4 Heins ere not dependant upon Mr. Rohbock for
endorsement—their Pianos were known, appreciated and
received the highest rommendations from the fret artists,
long before Prof. R. eaw tit to pass an opinion upon them.
My reason for publishing the extract was in the fact that
he was well known in the city, and not he nose his rococo.
mendatian Wall necessary to establish the merit of the
Pianos. In conclusion, I may add that they stand on their
own merit, and are endorsed by finch men a. List, Thelberg,
and others, solely on account of their merit

The present Legislature of Massachusette inn
remarkable one, clad the laws it enacts are as
remarkable as the Legislature. It has, juat
passed a lair practically nullifying the' eA:t of
Congress in reference to fugitive slaves. Vida

law provides that: •
"No justice of the peace, sheritf, nonstable

the writ of habeas corpus may be iesuedlty, alt
courts" of record, judges of probate, and in
some cases, justices of tbe=peace ; and instead
of the*-proceedings authorized by'.the'Tact of
1850, substitutes a trial by, jury._fand that no
confessions, admissions, or declaritiona of the
alleged fugitive against himself, shall be given In

if It should MONO tho .Governor's, signature,
will soon bring , the State into collision with tho
United States government, and leistot difficult
to predict the result. The citizens of this
country value the Union too much' to allot its

poverty a crime, and, without jury,
seizes helpless women and transporta them out
of the country. ' This law • -
Authalzes any justice of the peace, Upon

sea where he belongs, - if .the justice thinks
proper, and be may be conveniently removed ;
and also that, independently of ibis provision
of law, a practice has arisen by whictithi-oom
missioner of alien passengers undertakes, even
without the warrant of a justice, of the peace,
to send back paupers in caves ikwhieh he sees
fit, and pay the expenses from money in his
hands belonging to the State Treasury." - -
The operation of the la* exhibited In the
following paragraph from the BOBUIII Advertiser:
"Yesterday morning there sailed from this
port a splendid packet ship, bearing. the noble
