PIO METAL.— The sales reported yesterday were 103
tone, Diercur County, at $2O, six mos; also, 50 tons N 0.3 —,
$2B, six mos. The American in its weekly review says :
" We have had some few sales of Pig without any material
change in rates. We report 430 tons Olswy, (Allegheny
cold) at a price withheld, bat known to be a trifle
getter than $2B, 6 mos—probably $2B, with a portion in
cash, and another in 4 mos paper. We judge so from the
fact that $2O was asked, and $2B at 6 months refused. The
sellers this year are singularly nensit ye on the ' open or
parthation' question. A lot of Ore Hill, from 350 to 400
tons is also reported as transpiring in secret session, but
which we may set down—we having a right to guess when
they will not tell us—at $2B, 6 months, knowing as we do,
that it varies little, if say from this. We have also sales
of some small lots of Allegheny—and s,natl lots never rank
with No, I—al $26 and $26,50, 6 mrs. We hear of nothing
doing in Hanging Rock, besood small lots to foundries of
b. b. at $34.

STAMICLIP Wasca.—There were 4 feet 11 lushes water in
the channel at dusk, lastefening, and statloirary. Busi

"Jeannette" br Nashville.
Tits tine steamer " Dinrual" is the. regular packet for
Wheeling this morning; she leaves at 10 o'clock.
Tax steamer "Cincinnati," Capt. Curtis, SS the regular
packet for the Queen City to-day; she leaves at 1034 A. M.
Tam steamer •Great West" Is now loading for St. Louis
and. the Upper Mississippi river. She 19 commanded by ex
perienced officers, and offers fine inducements to travelers
going West.
Tux steamer "Brazil," Captain B H. Hutchinson, being
detained yesterday, will leave this morning by 7 o'clock, cr
directly after getting her cargo on board, for St. Lords and
St. Paul direct. Those who wish to take a passage to the
Upper Mississippi ricer, should be on board early.
Tux steamer " Gray ite State," GaPt. E. Hazlett, leaves
today for St. LOttill and all the landings on the Upper Ails
sissippl river. She has just returned from Galena. Cap t.
and his polite assistant, B. G. Lelper, will do all in their
power to make all comfortable who travel with them. •
TEE St. Louis Republican, of the 11th inst., says that the
steamer " Alma " arrived on the 10th, with the largest load
of the season, comprising a variety of Pittsburgh manufac,
Lured articles and dry goods. The steamers John 8. Prin
gle, Mansfield, Persia and Caledonia were advertised to leave
for this city on the 11th inst.
Two New lIIILLB came to the wharf yestorday—one for
E. Hazlett, of the " Granite State," built by Ben Coursin,
at Bellevernon, and the other for Capt. G. W. Reed, former.
ly of the " Forester." They will be both of light draught,
not exceeding 14 to 15 inches when finished.
The Louisville Cburicr,, of Saturday, thus complains of
the scarcity of freight in that ;section
The rates of freights from this port to New Orleans are
nominally 25 cents for pound freights; 50 cents per barrel
for pork, and. 20 cents per bag fur corn. Freights are es
cessively scarce, and our packets will be compelled to make
their down trips dying light. The Ben Franklin. hence for
New Orleans, was at Evansville yesterday, where she re
ceived but barely 15 hogsheads of tobacco, with no pros
pect what. ver for more.
The Memphis, on her recent upward trip, made the run
from Memphis here in three days and twenty-one hours.

Tog St. Louis publican, of the lath, says:
At this point the water is stationary. The Upper Minh•

New Lucy. Eats Swinney, Bam Cloon, &Petra and Martha
Jewette have arrived since our last—all bring hard ac
counts of sand bars mud snags so thick that navigation is
attended with little else but delay, vexation and dapper.
Most of the "weather prophets" predict that in a few
weeks there will be such a rise in the Missouri, as bath not
been hoard of before or since the flood of 1844.
I This rise will give business to some of the largo class of
No. 1 stern-wheel steamers of Pittsburgh. The W. 11. Den.
