A FEW days since, I published an advertisement of my
HAMBURG PIAROB,IO which an extract from a letter
from Prof. 11. Rohbock, of this city, addressed to Messrs.
ttaumgarten Si Heins, of Hamburg, the manufacturers,
woo 'mortal. This morning I observed in several of the
daily papers a Node.," signed by Prof. It. in which be
states that I was unauthorized to make use c:f it, and that
it was incorrectly stated and applied.
In reply—l presumed that if he bad written the letter,
he, of course, meant what Was therein contained, and con
sequently required no authority from biro to make the
sums public. As regard, thaassertion as to Ito incorrect
ness, I have the letter in my possession, and it speaks for
itself, word for word as I have published. "Messrs. ileum.
gorten A Heins are not dependant upon Mr. Rohbock for
endoisement—their Pianos were known, appreciated and
receivol the highest commendations from the first artists,
long before Prof. R. saw fit to pass an opinion upon them.
My reason for publishing the extract was in the fact that
he was well known In the city, and not be aura his corm.
mendation was necessary to establish the' merit of the
Pianos. In conclusion, I may add that they stand on their
own merit, and are endorsed by such men ae List, Thaberg,
and others, solely on account of their merit.

offering to farn eh me with a similar one, in case I liked it.

(The North British Review pronounces this Dome the bast

Within this sober real= of leafless trees,
The russet year inhaled the dreamy air,
Like some tanned reaperin his boor of ease,
Whenall.tbe fields are lying brown and bare.
The gray barna looking from their hazy hills
O'er the dim waters widening in the vales,
Beat down the air a greeting to the mills,

The hills seemed farther, and the streams nag /01r

The embattled forests erewh Ile armed in gold,
Their banners bright wi.h every martial hue,
Now stood, like somesad beaten host of old,
Withdrawn afar in Time's remotest blue.
On amb'rous wings the valuate tried his night;
The dove scarce beard bts singing male's complain
And like agar slew drowning in the light,
The Tillage church vane seemed to pale and faint,
The sentinel cock upon the bill Bide crew.

Where sang the noisy masons of the envoi,
The busy swallows circling ever near,

An early harvest and a plenteous year.
Where every bird which charmed the vernal feast
Shook the sweet slumber from It! 'wings at morn
To warn the reapers of the rosy east,
All now was songless, empty and forlorn.

The Farm.--In the early f art of this month pas
tures should be attended to. Do not pasture cat
tle until the grass has some growth, or the yield
of the season will hitless. Cloanand.whitewaeh
cellars, distribute charcoal dust and plaster nf
Paris nbont your hog-pens, stables, Ezo., and re
move all putrescent and unwholesome substan•
ces. The charcoal dust and plaster of Paris will
absorb deleterious gasses, as given off from veg
etable and other matters undergoing decay.
" Plant Indian corn as soon as the leives sire
as large as a mouse's ear." This is an old and
safe adage, but we should advise that some he
planted earlier, either broadcast or thickly Yu
rows, for soiling cattle with the stalks. . Peas,
oats and buckwheat, as well as Indian corn,
should be soaked in water, and then rolled in plas
ter before planting. Plant .potatoes - for. your
principal crop, if, cot prevlnusly, done. Those
planted early ate less subject to be diseased. If
you have land thoroughly prepared - and well sib
soiled, sow luoern; this crop will be found very
profitable for those who soil cattle, as it may out
four times during the summer. If the soil be
not deeply disintegrated, lucern cannot snowed,
as it is a deep-rooted plant and fails as sonn i es
the ends of the roots reach a coal and- compact

Attend to in_ sects, and read our articles on cat
erpillars, and modes of destroying them. It you
have used six bushels of salt per acre on your
winter follows and grass lands, but Sew insects
will annoy you other than those' which harbor
in trees, &0., and where salt has been used, but
few weeds will be found. Cleanse the bark' of
your fruit trees. (See our article on Cleansing
Bark of Fruit Trees, &e.)
Secure manures from the influence of son
and rain as fast as made. Place them under cov
er, if practicable, and augment.their. quantityby
admixture of muck, pond-Mud, or even head
lands, as during the warm weather stable Man
ure decomposes rapidly, and gives of large quan
tifies of ammonia, which should be received by
such materials as are capable of retaining it.
When muck cannot be bad, cover the top of the
heaps with charcoal duet or plaster'of Paris.
If you have hog pen manure which - is - free
from long stuffs, mix it with charnel , dfist un
der a shed, and by turning it will become, pul
verulent in time to sow with turuips, for which
use it is equal to ground bones, and at onti:third
the cost. Dress corn and potatoes thoroughly,
and if horn shavings can be had, apply them to
corn in the hill ; no manure is more safe and
effective for this use. Should potatoes not allow
vigor, use guano (Peruvian) diluted with-100
time its bulk of charcoal dust or welt decompo
sed peat id the the hills, at the time , of hoeing
or cultivating, using a small handful to each hill.
The improved super-phosphate of lime may be
used Instead of the guano and charcoal.
Save soap suds for fruit frees, both as a wash
and as a manure. If you have salt meadows
ditch them, and the muck dug , out will be
ready for mixing in compost in October and No
vember.
Orchard.—Attack the caterpillars by burning
themlwith the camphene lamp described in a
former volume. As caterpillars leavo their best
at about 8 o'clock A. Id , and return to them at' 6
P. At., they should be attacked before or- after
these hours. Boiling -water poured Into the
haunts of ants will destroy them. It your trees
were properly washed in early spring they would
