THR CITY POST.
TUESDAY MORNING
BRITTALASSAULT.-MAN PROBABLY FATALLY
Isaulart.—A brutal and. outrageous assault,
whioh will probably result in the death of a Ger
man named- Valentine Folder, residing in the
Ninth Ward; occurred on Sunday night about 9
o'clock, on the corner cf Addams and Penn
streets. It appears that for some time past, a
had.state of, feeling has existed between Felder
and a young fellow named Peter Weaver, living
in the same Ward On Sunday evening. Weaver
told three of his companions, Jacob Leander,
Michael Texten, and John Buck, that he intend
ed gielng Felder a whipping, and asked them to
q
,Bono - ' y him and see "fair play ." The four
all - gly walked up Penn street, in the dire°.
'flask_ihe German's house, until arriving at Ad
damistreet, where they met their man coming
down. As soon as ho got sight of him,
Weaver " pitched" into him savagely, knock
ing -him down and injuring him very se
verely. Felder, somewhat astonished at the
suddenness of the attack, quickly recovered from
his surprise, rose from the ground, and in turn
assaulted his adversary. The other three here
interfered, and seized Fodder. While holding
him, Weaver picked up a large stone, which he
hurled at biz bead. The missile hit him on the
hack of the head; ust behind the ear. The un
fortunate man fell, insensible, to the ground.
The party then attempted to make their escape,
but the watch coming up, they were all arrested
and taken to the Tombs.
Felder was picked np, and conveyed to his
residence on Penn street, in the upper end of the
Ninth Ward. Alderman Major, (who is acting
for the Mayor, in the absence of his Honor.)
yesterday afternoon went no to take his deposi
tion, but he was still in so precarious a state as
to be unable to speak. The skull does not ap
pear to be fractured, but the contusion is so se
vere as to render the man's recovery somewhat
doubtful..
The -four young men were committed to jail
on a charge of disorderly conduct, to await the
result of Fedder's injuries.

ANOTBER TRIAL Or TILE STRAY FIRS ENGINS.
—The steam fire engine "Young America" was
submitted to another trial, yesterday afternoon,
on the corner of Hand and Liberty streets.
Curiosity to see the great " Amin" operate
having been somewhat satisfied at the previous
exhibition, the crovri wae not near as great as
last Thuraday, and the machine was cones.
quently worked with greater ease. The trial
was still more satisfactory than the former ono.
In 13 minutes from the time fire was placed cin
der the boiler, water was thrown. With a pres
sure of 45 pounds of steam to the square inch,
:three streams from 14 nozzles were thrown. The
greatest distance - attained with a single stream
was 225 feet. This, we believe, is as mach as
the inventor claims for the engine. Oae of our
.city engines was in attendance to compete with
the machine, but did not throw near as far.

UNITED STATES CIRCUIT COURT.—Hon. R. C.
Grier and Hon. Thomas Irwin on the Bench.
After the calling of the names of the traverse
jury, the decision of the Court in the celebrated
Economy case was read. This, our readers will
recollect, was a s lit brought by Jonathan Nadi
treib, a seceder from the Fouerite colony at
Economy, to recover his share of the joint pro
perty of the company. The claim was resisted
on the grounds, that as he bad withdrawn from
the place he was not entitled to any of the pro
perty. The decision was favorable to Nachtreib,
.and allows him $3,890.
The opinion of the Court was also read in the
mate of Jones el al. vs. Cincinnati Coal Company.
The opinion reversed the decision of the District
Court, but reserved the matter of costs.
The hint list and argument list were then
.called over, and a number of cases continued un

ttsTinrd's Hair Restorer... This preparation
seems to be efficacious for the restoration of the hair upon
bald heads. We have seen the testimony of persons welt
known to Us, who have used the compound successfully,
thereby corroborating the opinflittnf its restorative *suer
gy. We know of nothing moredesirablu in the way of per-

either sex, who are unlucky enough to teed its benefit.
Ire took occasion the other day to notice this valuable
compound in the above terms, and now republish what was
then said, to show gain our favorable opinion of It.
The foregoing is taken from the Petersburg (Virgins)
Inlelligencer, and refers to an article which has for a time
been advertised In our columns. We must confess that we
have been somewhat sceptical as to the remarkable effects
attributed to this famous aflair Restorer." But our in•
credulity has been greatly shaken within a day erl*y
seeing a couple of certificates of well-known and perfeoY
credible citizens of the neighboring town of Preston—one
of them the Captain of a New London whaling ship—to the
effect that, to each of these cases, O. two or three months'
use of the " Restore t" had actually brought out a new and;
vigorous growth of hair upon the head where it was before
bald—the baldness being, in one case, of more than twenty
years standing. Ws do not suppose it is by any means cc r:.
lain that, because the application has been thus successful
In one case, or two, or a dozen, it is therefore certain to
prove equally successful In all. But with such head-strong
evidence as the foregoing, very few bald heads, We suspect,
would willingly forego a fair trlarof the " Restorer." All
such old heads" ate infirmed that the article can be had
