One of the best evidences lately given that money is be•
corning plenty, we witnessed yesterday, at an auction sale
on Third street. A gentler= connected with the press
having determined to abandon housekeeping, put up his
furniture, &c., at public, Brae, when priceswers. realised that
showed an advance of from fifty to one hundred per cent:
on the original cost. This either shows a great ease in the
money market, or that the individual question has a host
of friends—perhaps it is an evidence of both.

Tar regular packet for Wheeling to-day Is the superb
steamer "Forest City." To those going that way we cheer
fully recommend this boat
Br the card of the steamer "Castle Carden" Capt. IL IL
Deviutoy, it will be seen she is loading for the Illinois
river. Recommendations from us are unnecessary.
THE sits ner "Philadelpida,' , Capt. Grace, is the regular
packet for to-day. We hope she may be crowded from item
to stern with passengers as clever as the officers of the
boat. We should like very much to take a trip on her today.
ME light draught steamer "Louisville," Capt. A; Dean,
being prevented from leaving yesterday, will positively
leave for Nashville today; passengers and shippers may
rely on this.
Tin steamer 'Fairy Queen," Capt. S. C. Reno, wan de
tained yesterday by press cf business. Having all her
freight on board, she will certainly depart this morning for
the Falls City.
Toe river bne agan commenced falling, the late Alle•
gheny rise having nothing to sustain it, proving of alight
avail, with seven feet water in the canal last evening, and
five feet on the falls, in the dug chute. Over the rocks
there were but four feet water. Since Saturday the river
had receded eight Inches. The Midas,. In attempting to
enter the canal yesterday, misted the chute and lolessi on
the reef just outside of the abutment A lot of flatboats,
loaded with coal, were 13 lug in -shore, and fearing to touch
them she was held too far out, and the current sucked her
over to the rocks. For a steamboat to touch a }lnit.° tt la
equivalent to sinking it, and in avoiding bleylia she fell lob
Charybdis. The mall boats now ticket passengers through
from the East to Kansas, a long reach for one line; but
they readily accomplish the feat—Louisville Courier, 30th.
