DEDICATION OP. TIIE FIRST PRESETTEIIIA:
Cnuace —This beautiful edifice was tilled with an immense
crowd on Sunday morning, upon the occasion of its dedica
tion to the nrclee of the Lcrd. The dediesdox7 services
were of an-exceedingly interesting and impressive charac
ter, and were listened to by all with thamost eanaest atten.
lion. The congregation was eddressed by the Rev. Mr.
Paxton, the regular Pastor of the Chn - cb, in a discourse of
great beauty and power. The services ware continued
during the afternoon and evening, and each time the edifice
seas densely crowded.
The church it 68 feet front, by 123 feet deep, and is built
in the style of tha' perhxl of the Middle Ages, when recta
sizstical architecture bad attained to that exquisite refine.
merit, the monuments of which are admired at the present
day as masterworks of art and still. The entire front,
with its two mas.rsi re but elegant towers, it built of Baden
store, and presents a beautiful appearance.
The interior portico, devoted to worship, is righty.flve
feet long, and i 3 capable of seating 1,505 persons. The cell.
lug is of pthree feet above the d , ior. The 'pews, of which
there are one hundred and forty-six on the main float and
forty-eight on the gallery, are of a beautiful pattern, being
richly carved and trimmed with black walnut. The pulpit
is an exceedingly handsome piece of workmaredidp, and re
flect 3 credit on the designers.
' It is generaliy conceded that the thumb, for elegance
and beauty, is not equalled by any similar edisre in the
city. The whole met of the structure will be about $7:.,000,
an amount, which every one who has seen the church will
admit, has been judiciously expended.
The church has been erected meter the personal snyeriti
tendanceof C. flartberger, the architect. The carpenter work
is by Messrs. 111'Clellen1 & Ferguson; the stone and brick
work by Meecre. Erstein & Haworth; the beautiful stucco
wort by Blythe, Bassett .t Merganroth.

BMIGLAIIT.--The boarding house of Mrs
Whitesidee, on Fellers! street, Allegheny, was bunglarictusly
entered ou Sunday morning, about three o'clock, by three
fellows, who, before quitting the premit es, very leisurely
searched nearly the whole house, taking away with them
all the table knives, fifteen pounds of butter, ten dozen
eggs and several articles of jewelry. They entered the
room of one of the boarders, and carried his clothes to the
lower story, where it appears as if they had tried them on,
but probably finding a bad "fit," retired and left them.

We took occasion the other day to notice this valuable

The foregoing is taken from the Petersburg (Virginia)

been ad rertiscil in our columns. We must confess that we
have been somewhat seeptleal as to the remarkable effects
attributed to this famous "flair Restorer." But our in•
credulity has been greatly shaken within a day or two by
Ewing a couple of certificates of well-known and perfectly
credible cititens of the neighboring town of Preston—one
of them the Captain of n New London whaling chip—to the
effect that, In each of three rases, a two or three months'
