\FEW days since, I published an advertisement of my
Ii A3I3CKU Pianos, in which an extract from a letter
from Prof. U Rohb&ck, of this city, addressed to Messrs.
Dttumgurten & Heins, cf Hamburg, the manufacturers,
was inserted. This morning I observed in several of the
daily papers a *• Notic ,” signed by Pyof. it, in which he
states that I was unautboriz.-d to make use of it, and that
it was incorrectly slated and applied.
In r**ply—l presumed that ii he had written the letter,
he, of course, meant what wa9 therein contained, and con
sequently required no authority from blm tn make the
same public. As regard: the assertion as to its incorrect
ness. \ have the letter in my posswiou, and it speaks for
its. U, ord for word us X have published. Messra liuum

eodou jment—their Pianos were known, appreciated and
revived the highest rommendations from tho first artists,
IODg before Trot. R. saw fit to pass an opinion upon them.
My reason for publishing the extract was in the fact that
he was well known in the city, and not bo ausa his recom

Pianos. In cooclu.-hn, I may add that they stand on their

1,600 and 2,000. This is certainly a very as
tonishing increase in tho course of 25 years.
Their numbers in tho large cities are neariy.aa
follows: New York 100; Brooklyn, 26 ; Phila
delphia, 70; Boston, 25; Baltimore, 16. Of the
junior members of this profession, aboot. 8.50
are regular graduates of tho two American
Homeopathic Colleges.
The Homoepathio Medical College of Penn
sylvania, at Philadelphia, was instituted in 1810.
chartered in 1848, and opened tho Bamo year.
Its faculty consists of W. A. Gardner, M. p ,
Dean, and seven other Professors. The '‘West
ern Collogo of Homaapatbio Medicine,” at'Cleve
land! Ohio, was founded March. l r 1860.' Like
the former it has a faculty of eight Professors,
of whom Professor C. D. Williams, &i. D., is tho
Dean;
Tho establishment of a college in thls Stato
has been under consideration in the State Socie
ty for tbree years, but this project has been in
definitely, postponed. Last year. Dr. C. Heriig
and his associates announced their intention to
commence a new institution at Philadelphia,’to
be called the “Independent Medical CollegeJof
Pennsylvania,” but we have not learned of their'
accomplishing this design.
The number of publications on Homoeopathy
is remarkably large for so new a soience, and is
constantly increasing. This is mainly owing to
the activity of its practitioners, who are steadily
engaged in making experiments and reporting
their results. In several of their societies, both
io Earope and America, each member la bonßd
to prove upon himself, and those of hie friends
who Will undertake it, tit least-one-drug every
year. Tho drugs thus proved, and their record
ed symptoms, constitute the Homoeopathic Ma
teria Medica, which is yearly increased. About
twenty different periodicals have been published
in this country, few of which have been con
tinued more than two or three years. T’be prin
cipal magazine now published is the Philadel
phia Journal of Ilomcr.'pathy, edited by tors.
Gardiner and Small, and issued monthly.
: Homoeopathic hospitals and free dispensaries
have been established in many of the large oiliea
in Europe. In the United States there is but
one hospital of this kind, viz: that at Philadel
phia, which contaios over forty rooms, with as
many beds; it is a chartered institution, and
entirely separate from the college, whose stu
dents, however, tbero receive clinical instruction
in medicine and surgery. Attempts have beyi
made to establish euch a hospital in this cify. hnt
as yet they have not been crowned with bugc’cbr.
The principal dispensary in this city, at No. 448
Broadway, corner of Broome at., was established
October 1, 1845, and dispenses from 2,600 tp
3,000 prescriptions annually. That in_Brooklyn,
at No. 68 Court street, was fouudod'Bome two
years since ; during the last year it had 485 pa
tients, for whom it made about prescrip
tions.
The Future for Wool Growers*
With maDy farmers, just now, tbereis much
JDuht as to their future coarse. Wool is com
paratively low; all kinds of grain are high.; So
also with animal food—beef, pork, and mutton
never demanded such high prices, and both hot
ter and cheeso have paid the dairy farmer bettot*
than ever before. Wo propose to consider the
question whether, with all' these factß before
him, the farmer can do better than to continue
to grow wool, or raise sheep as his circumstances
will permit.
And in the first place let us see whether grain
growiug is likely to prove as profitable for any
length of time, as it now is.
While wheat brings such prices aB it has for
tho last two years, farmers will sow, though the
midge does destroy more or less of the crop, for
the high price warrants the risk. A partial
failure, even will yield a profit. It is hardly
possible, however, that wheat will command such
prices for any length of timo. Yet It iff equally
certain that it will bring higher.prices-upoo the
average for the next ten years, than the last
ton. A permanent rise in the price of wheat
must follow the increase of gold, and is one of
the results of the California acquisition. ; The
increase of gold will enhance oil kinds of agri
cultural products which go to the support of hu
man life.
If society be divided into producers and non
producers, includiug in the former only those
who till the Boil, it will be eurpriaiog tosco how :
rapidly the non producing are gaining in popu
lation upon the farmer. And herein is one
solution of the distress that has everywhere
prevailed in cities and villages, and which must
continue until the balance is restored to ■ its
proper level by the surplus power becoming pro
ductive.
It may be safely asserted of the wholo ooun
try that productive labor ha 9 outran capital;
that, agriculture sells more than it bay's, and
tho differenoo is finding its way to the pook-.
eta of tho farmers, and does not flow back
rapidly to the mechanic or the manufacturer.
Tho country is growing rich, but not so tho
cities.
High prices, then, for grain, must provail uq*
til the Burplus labor of the country baa.gone to
raising grain, and thus by a Full supply the
market is lowered. A result that will take place, :
but rather slowly. The high price for grain will
also secure a good price for meats, and; will
make the raising and feeding of cattlo, hogs and
sheep, both safe and profitable la dairy pro
ducts there cannot well bo any falling o fir in'
price, from tho fact that the section of cur coun
try best suited to that business is comparatively;
small, so that while tho population rapidly in
creases, the moans of a supply aro not increas
ing in tho same proportion. Tho consumption
in milk by the cities and villages, forms no in- 1
considerable item in tho consumption, of dairy
products. All kinds of farming will pay well,
if devoted to the production of human food.
Bat wool will not command as liigh a price,
comparatively, ta other products. Still It will :
be profitable to keep sheep, aa profitable aa any
other stock. It ia hardly possible that good me-:,
rino wool ia good condition Bhould range below
an average of 35 cents per pound, we think’ for "
years it will go higher. But taking it at that ‘
price, and tbs average product of 4 pounds perkj
head, it gives for the use of tho sheep $1,40,
say nothing of the lamba. Merino lamba in
good condition, at six months old, will sell read,-
i\y to the batcher at from $1,25 to $1,75, say : '
the average is $1,50. At this price few farmers
are in the habit of saving their males, except
some that are very choice, and many of the best
breeders will not do that, unless they can ectn* •
mand a good pTico for them for stock. The re-, r
salt is, that very few males are or should be ’.
wintered. Thus the increase in a flock is near*. ;
iy equal to the number wintered, Maklog all ,
reasonable allowances for casualties, and tho ,
farmer gets annually $2,75 per head from his . t
sheep.• , . r
While, therefore, wool ia not, and ’probably
will not be lower than it has averaged for the
last ten years, sheep have mcro (hao doubled in
Value of carcass, by reason of the great demand
for food ; mutton being the rheapeat as it is the . t
most healthful of all meats, Is coming more and 7
spore into use, and tbo demand for it is increase''
ipg at a; rapid rate. It will be found by ..the : ;
farmers who continue in the business to be, ns i
-It always has been for the capital invested, by
far the most profitable of a y branch that he '
carries on. And, over a large portion of the
Union, more money can be mado acre,
hy growiog mutton for the market than beef! •
think it will not be more than twenty years -
the raising of/sheop -will .be largely,on,>
tjie increase. Up to this time wool has-been,
ihore an object than the thlf
time forward the carcass wilt bo more aa dje/V

,j | The fulurr, therefore, has nothing in : t tbtS r

in the country, will not bo sacrificed by the
