DAILY MOBBING POST.

■ • RnwAMTLj the Circassian Ciiiep.— Lately,
' iays fr JPrencb paper, Schamyl has been rejoiced i
by the return of his son, who, eleven years ago,
' when of tender age, had tho misfortune to be
taken prisoner by the the Rossians. Siooo then
Schamyl had not heard of the boy, and long ago
gave him up for lost. It appears, however, that
when he was oaptnred the Russian general,
Prince Wordnzoff, sent him to St. Petersbnrg,
. where the late Emperor took a liking to.the lad,
" and had him educated iu the Military Academy.
It happened last year that Schamyl, in some
Buddon surprise, took several Russian ladies pri
soners, arnoDg whom was the Prinoces Tschnra
waddy. They were conducted to one of Scba
rnyi’a mountain fastnesses and confined tbero as
prisoners of war, but treated with tho respect
and decorum duo to their rank and sex. Tbe
Governor General of Tifiis sent a flag of true©
* to Schamyl to demand tho release of the cap
tured ladies, offering a large sum of money and
the liberty of several Circassian ladies who had
. been made prisoners by the Russians. But ,
Schamyl replied that if his son were alive and j
the Russians would restore him, ho would release ;
■ell tho lady captives. The Emperor^Nicholas i
sent for young Schamyl, gave him his liberty,
and fitted him out with tho needful equipments
ta undertake the long joorney. Tho exchange
took place in tho end of January. Young Scba
xnyl, who, when at St. Petersburg, was not re- j
quired.to abjure the Moslem creed, has profited \
by his involuntary stjour at the Russian capital, ;
and has now returned to his over-joyed father
an accomplished oavalier, with a comparatively |
civilized education. It is said that he entortains
to the Emperor for his personal -
treatment, and it is, not impossible that bis re- !
turn to his warive mountains may have an effect 1
oU ;the future-mode of Circassian warfare and !
thoAntrodnotion of more civilized manners and ;
anatoms generally among his countrymen.

book form. $1,75.
,•* The object of the present work is to supply a want
very generally felt by Assistant Engineers on Railroads.
Books of convenient form for use in the field, containing
the ordinary lograritbmatlc tables are common enough; but
a book combining with these tables .others peculiar to the
Railroad work, and especially the necessary formats for
laying out corves, turn-outs, crossings, a desideratum
which this work is designed to Bupply.
U. S. Mujya&t Academy, West Point, April 18, 1854.
Gentlemen: I have Looked over “Henck's Field Book for
Railroad Engineers,” and think It well adapted to the ob*
ject its author proposes, and have no question but it will be
founds veryusefui and practical volume both for offleeand
field work. D. H. Mauax.
Teoy, April 21,1854.
I am much pleased with Mr. Henck's little manual, the
“ Field Book.of Railroad Engineers.” With the presenta
tion of some of the moet practical and useful of recognised
processes among railway engineers, he has given others
which, newatleaat in their present form, appear to possess
a mint of higher value than that of mere novelty—that of
being in general susceptible of available, not to say desira
ble, practical use. In conclusion, while I think the design
of Mr. Henck’s book is speh aa to adapt it excellently well
to professional needs, I have pleasure; in expressing my
cordial satisfaction with its execution, alike with the per
spicuity of arrangement effected by the author, and the ex
cellent typographical taste displayed by his publishers.

three of them in tbelr own cases, and always with the hap

article, that anything like a general confidence can be ex

The nnrivailed excellence of this combination of agents,
(In the Cutout Pectoral,) proved beyond cavil by repented
trial under their own has compelled medical
men to proclaim abroad its •usefulness. It is beyond all
doubt the best'geheral remedy we have for the Pulmonary
Affections of this climate, at the same time sedative and
expectorant—a rare combiDation-of properties. .
In the hope that it will prove its own reward,! subscribe
