Ten cents will bo paid for each. . Theatre.—The theatre was comfortablycrowd ed on Monday night, on the occasion of the first representation of thedrama of David Copperfield, which went off in the most successful manner. We never saw au {audience better pleased. Mr. Jobbsou’s porsonatioo of the character of Uriah lieep..cannot be snrpaased. He seemed to have caught the author’s idea of this hypocritical, fawning scoundrel/completely, and portrays it with a judgment and tact that rendors the repre sentation perfectly startling and life-like. A Spo tator loses‘sight of Mr. Johnston’s individu ality entirely, and retaiQß .only the impression that be has before him a most consummate vil- lain, whom it would be an act of jasiice to stran- gle. Several of the passages of tho play were rendered with an effect tbit was absolutely thrilling, and “brought down tho house.” Mr. Bailey’s Mlcawbcr was also excellent—given with good taste and effectively—with the excep tion that he waß not very perfect in his part, and had to refer too often to the prompter. However, this \b a fault easily overlooked on the first representation of a play. The other char acters of the play had so little to sajTb? T do in tbe piece, that it*is hardly neocssary to refer to them. Fiue th Allegheny—Tehee Hobbes Burned to Death.—Last night, about 8 o’clock, a fire broke out in a stable iu tho lower part of tho First Ward, Allegheny city, belonging to Mr. William Dilworih. .The wind blowing very bard at the time, the dimes quickly extended to a row of three frame houses also belonging to Mr. DUworth, but inhabited by three families, named Sawyer, Myers and Kelly. Tho stable and frames being composed of very combustible ma terial, were all burned to tho ground. In the former, were tbreo valuable horses, which could not be got out, and were burnt to death. The household furniture in the tbreo dwellings was likewise consumed, with tbo exception of a few trifling articles. In the bouse of Mr. Myers, a sum of money, the exact amount wc could not ascertain, but supposed to bo two or three hun dred dollars, was destroyed. The families burnt out were all poor, and will feel their losses sad ly. We believe there wns no insurance. The Bread Suits.—-The arguments in these eoits were made before Alderman Donaldson, yesterday morning, and occupied about three hours in their delivery. Mr. M’Calaiont, for the city, touched on the matter briefly, contend* tog that the. violations of tho ordinance had been clearly proven, and that a decision in favor of tho city should follow as a matter of coarse. Messrs. Mellon and Irwin, counsel for the defen dant, founded their arguments on three points: lab. That tho ordinance was nail and void, be cause it was a restriction of trade. 2J. Because it conflicts with tho bread act of 1797; and 3d. That it is unconstitutional, because it undertakes to regulate tho weight of tread, a power solely .jested in Congress by the Constitution of the United States. The learned gentlemen argued she oase powerfully and eloquently. At the con* elusion of tho arguments, Alderman Donaldson said he. would take the matter under advisement, arid give his decision in a few days. A Bow with 'THE Police.— Mayor Adams, of Allegheny, having cause to suspect that a man named Kearns, living in tho Third Ward, was in the habit of violating the Sunday liquor law, despatched three or four of his police jester day to hrrcst him. On entering the bouse, they were immediately attacked by tho man, bis wife -find a crowd of loafers assembled in tbo bar room, and a~ “ free fight ” ensued between the two parties. The police, however, fought vigo rously, drove their assailants elf, took Reams and his epouse into custody, and brought them be fore his Honor, who, finding he could not prove the first offence, mulcted him in tho sjm of $lO and costs,.for disorderly oogdncu «.. . HotExpcciedto Rkcoveu —Mrs. Hasbrouck, ! the female whom wo mentioueJ yesterday tie ] having been frightfully bitteu by dogs, is not tx- • pcoted-to recover. A physician, who examined her injuries, aays them are twenty-one wounds, 1 and that tbo muscles of the arm arc completely ; gone. Mrs. Conch, the owner of ths dega, was 1 arrested and held to bail, by Alderman ll*rtj«\ S of Allegheny, to answer any charge that may be brought against her, relative to this matter. We ore informed that the dogs have been known : for their ferocious dispositions, aud that once 1 before they nearly tore a man to pieces. j Outrage.—A citizen of Allegheny City, and & friend of our informant, was knocked doun with a slang shot, in tho hands of a ruffian, whilst walking down Rebecca street, on Monday night, about 9 o’clock, aud robbed of a small amount of money which be had upon bis person. These outrages aro of frequent occurrence in onr sister city, and call loudly for some action. Tbo heavily taxed citizens should alter affaire— by raising a police for the protection of their lives and property. The waa bo badly beaten on the St. Clair Street Bridge, the other night, is iu the employ, of Aeschelman & Go , wagon-makers, Manchester, and iu tuid to be a very quiet aud inoffensive persoa. fie is now lying, at his boarding house, in the upper end of Allegheny, suffering severely from his injuries. Wo are glad to see the bridge company have offered a reward for the perpetrators of the outrage, and hope the rusoals may be brought to justice. • zcan Mirer and Britannia table and taa djKJonp ; ami DlfiOaACia-CL. —A poor insane creature, O timed Iron cnndli'MscK? end Kouflerp ; knob locks, knob Inirh 1 1*, Donahue, is again on our streets attracting bu;t hiuge.-i, screws, rfnidbiog nail*, mx-kt-i nmi f*rm«T i b»>- crowds by his violent gesticulations and horrid «d*. ««»*». »1U «*>. t«n»m l»«l »»»*. >*->■ »" J .1 l J t u 6 uv-uldim; plum'*, Kith a KPtieihl assortment cd tiij«*''Utlwr'. m&aphcmtes. Selling Liquor on Sunday.—A man named Lofiok t a proprietor of a Lager Beer Hall, on Troy Hill, was fined $6O, yesterday, by Mayor Adams, for a violation of the Sunday Liquor *Law. ..Mrs. Anno Steiner, on Chestnut street, Alle gheny, was also fined the game amount, by e similar offence, by Mayor Adams. A Heavy Judgment. —James Kelley & Co. re covered at tbe late term of tbe court of common picas, in Columbiana county, a judgment for forty odd thousand dollars against the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Railroad Company. The suit was brought by Mr. Kelley to recover for labor performed in the construction of the Sandy Val ley Railroad. Its pecuHarthcxnical qualities have a beneficial effect upon the growth and character of the hair, glTisg a silky and glossy texture to that which was former* ly of a coarse and dry nature* ■' It has also a tendency to preserve the youlhfnf • color and oppearance of the hair, and destroying or counteracting the effects of age. With sufch recommendations In Its favor, we hardly perceive how any lady or gentleman 'should be without eo valuable an adjunct to the toilet. Persons Who have used it from the age of sixty-four down, declare it to be the most perfect ar ticle to secure the object; Intended ever yet produced. Gray hair, whether produced by the slow progress of time, or by any of the causes which whiten tho locks prematurely, is restored to a healthy, liyelyjappcarance, and all the disa. greeable effects of dryness, die accumulation of dandruff or like impurities, are removed. From tho Editor of tho Beal Estate Advertiser, 27 School at Boston, March 20, 1854. Peov. Wood: Dear Sir —Having become prematurely qnite gray, I was lodncod seme six weeks since, to make trial of your Hair Restorative. I havo used less than two bottles, bnt the gray balrt have all disappeared; and al though my hair has not ftillj attained its original rolor, yet the process ol change is gradually going on, and I have great hopes that, in a short time, my hair will be as dark aB formerly. I have also been much gratified at the healthy ; tnoisture and vigor of tbe hair, which before was harsh and dry, and It bas ceased to ocme out as formerly. Respectfully Tours, D. C M. Rupp. 'Fbof. Wood; Dear fil^—My hair commenced falling off sbme three or four years sicca, and continued to do so until I became quite bald. I tried all the popular remedies of tbe day bnt to no effect; at last I Was induced to use your cel ebrated Hal^Uestorative, and am very happy to cay it Is doing wonderri I have now a fine growth of young hair, and cheerfully recommend its uso to all similarly afflicted. A. O. Wntuiisoi*, 133 Second street. St. Louis, March 7th, 1854, GAELVtn, m., Juno 27tb, 1553. I have used Prof 0. J. Wood’s Hair Restorative, and have, aimired its wonderful effect. My hair was becoming, as 1 thought, prematurely gray, but by the use of his Restora tive, it has resumed its original color, and, I have no doubt, permanently so. ' v ‘ ’ Px-Senator, United Btatcs. It entirely cleanauC the head of dandruff, and with one month’s proper use will restore any pereou’a hair to the original youthful color and texture, giving it n healthy, raft, and glossy ■ppetrence, and all this without decoloring tbe hands that apply it, or the dress m which it drops.
