The mischief consisted in destroying a smoke bouse belonging to prosecutor.- 'The Alarm of Fire yesterday, at nocn, was caused by a pot of greage falliog into the fire, in the bousfc of a Mr Thompson, in Diamond alley. She went ashore on Saturday morn ing. Captain Soars, Gove (the third mate) and one seaman wore drowned, in attempting to reaoh shore in a boat. The remainder of tho crew -were taken off by a liie-boat. The Bhip holds together, bat tho main and mizzen masts have gone. The schooner Anita, Dawson, from Norfolk for Boston, is also ashore at Scitnate. She is a total loss, but her crew and cargo were saved. A despatoh from Plymouth, dated the lltb, reports a severe gale on Saturday, and that the roads are impassible from the drift of snow. An affray occurred yesterday morning among the crew of the ship Lady Suffolk, bound for Mo* bile, during which one seaman was killed. Four men have been arrested and brought to this oity. The cars from.Bostoo to Barnstable, on Satur day afternoon, could proceed no further than Middleboro* on account of the deep show. ' New York, March 12.— The steamship Ulinoib, from Aspinw&U, for New York, put to here yes* terdoy for coal. She reports the safety of the U. S. sloop of war Decatur, which was at Valpa raiso on the Bth of February. The John-Adams, frigate St. Lawrence and steamer Massachusetts were also at Valparaiso. 11. H. Fields oame a passenger in the Illinois, bringing despatches to the U. S. government from the S&ndwitch Islands. The Payment of Illinois Interest. New York, March 12.—Governor Mattison, of Illinois, is now here. Ho has reoeived full seourity for the amount in the hands of Wads worth & Sheldon at the time of their failure. This will enable the Treasurer of Illinois, with the other provisions made by the lato legislature, to pay the January interest at the timo tho next July interest is paid. Buffalo, N. Y. ? March 12.—A large fire oc curred at Weston, Missouri, on tho 7th instant. Two blooks situated on Dye and Market Streets, in the business part of the city, were destroyed. The merchants are heavy losers. The loss is estimated at $600,000. The insurance is not stated.
