It would be superfluous to speak of the Professor's ability as a teacher of the art of writing: ho has already made it mani fest by his success. To those who are desirous of seeing specimens of his shill, tbo Professor will take great pleasure in exhibiting the many beautiful designs which he has executed. Dnlike many other preceptors, the Professor attends to every scholar personally, eneonrging the back-, ward, assisting the apt, and infasing into all a desire to excel. With all this admirable combination of talent we have mentioned, we are not surprised the College has met with so much encouragement from our citiiens. Institutions of this charac ter. are a benefit to a city; there cannot be too many Of them, and we hope U may continue to meet with uninterrupted proaperty. Death or L. T. Covell. —The following re solutions were passed at the meeting of the Edu cational Association, on Saturday. Whereas, it has pleased Almighty Qod to take from our midst our esteemed friend, L. T. Corell, late a member of this Association, and a distinguished teacher of Allegheny oonnty, — Therefore, Eaolvcd, That in the death of L. T. Corell, the friends of education are called to monrn the loss of an efficient laborer, whose power of body and . mind were consecrated to the cause, and Whose mental endowments, ardent zeal, and un tiring energy of character, were so many pledg es of still greater usefulness ; and the Associa tion has to monrn tho loss of one of its earliest members, whose mild and gentlemanly deport mebtrSingnlar equanimity of temper and kind nessaof heart, commended him to the esteem and regard of his friends and associates in the profession. 'Rualvcd, That in this afflictive dispensation we are reminded of the frailty of human life and the vanity of all earthly hopes; and while we bow in hnmble submission to His will 11 wbo doeth all ibiugs well,” —" whoso ways are in the deep waters, and whose footsteps are not known,” and whose prerogative it is to bring light out of darkness, wo rejoice in the assurance that oar friend has gone from the scene of his labors here, “ to that rest which remaineth for the peo ple of God.” Jlejolvcd, That in this painful affliction, the family of the deceased are assnred of tho ten derest sympathy of this Association. R , six miles below Middletown, by which twenty one freight cars were wrecked and two men se riously injured. It happened In this way: As two bright trains were proceeding along in close proximity, ono of the rails gave way, either.from frost or sepae defect in the iron, jast as the locomotive of the first train bad passed over, which threw all the oars off the track, and before the second train conld be stopped, it bad rnn into and completely wrecked twenty one of them. The two men injured were breakmen; one hod his leg broken, and the other hie foot badly maßhed. The trains were coming west, and were owned, except the loco motives, by private parties. Is Tows.—-Messrs. Slaymaker and Linton, Clerks of the Pennsylvania House of Represen tative, arrived here on Saturday, and are stop ping at the City Hotel. We also abserved the good natured faco of that indefatigable corres pondent “ Ross,” of the Chronicle, who has doubtless etoleu away for a few days, from the unhealthy atmosphere of the capitol, to recruit his exhausted energies For the sake of the readers of our contemporary, we hope his ab sence from the legislative halls may not be pro longed. Disorderly Conduct. —Three men, named John Dunbar, David Craxton and James Welsh, were brought before Mayor Adams, on Satar day, on a charge of fighting and behaving in a disorderly manner in a Lager Beer Hail, on Ohio street. Welsh was Bent to jail in default of a fine of $2O. Dunbar was released on pay* ing ten dollars. Craxton was only fined five dollars, as be did not appear to bo as culpable as the others —upon paying which he was allowed to go. Man Injured on the Railroad. —On Friday night, as the express train on the Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroad was passing New Brigh ton, a passenger, mistaking that place for Roches ter, attempted to get off while the train was in motion; but in so doing was thrown violently to the ground, and injared very seriously. Ho was picked up in an insensible condition, and taken to the Merrick Housb, where be now lies, with but little hopes of his recovery entertained. Division of a Township. —A petition was presented in the Court of Common Pleas, on Saturday, for a division of Moon township. The petition is numerously signed by citizens of that township, and alleges that the distriot is inconveniently large for.school purposes. They desire that partin which Shousetown is situated, should be taken off, and erected into an addi tional township, to be called Crescent. The pe tition was laid over for consideration. Fodjid Deowkbd.—The body of a man ap parently about twenty-four yeers of age, was discovered yesterday in the Monong&hela river, nearly opposite the foot-of Market street. It was standing in a perfectly ereot position, at the stern of the steamer Eclipse, the head being the first part seen, and presented every appearance of having been in the. water for some months. Coroner Lowry held an inqaest on the body, but as there were no papers found, or any informa tion elioited of who ho was, or how ho came to his death; the jury Bimply retnrned a verdict of “found drowned.” :::::::::::!::MABCH 6. Ita peculiar chemical qualities have a beneficial effect upon the growth and character of the hair, giving a &Uky andglossy texture to that which was former ly of a coarse and dry nature. It has also a tendency to preserve the youthful color and appearance of the hair, and destroying or counteracting the effects of age. With such recommendations in its favor, wu hardly perceive bow any lady or gentleman should be without so valuable an adjunct to the toilet. Persons who have used it from the age of sixty-fouc down, declare it to be tho most perfect ar ticle to secure the object Intended ever yet produced. Gray hair, whether produced by the slow progress of time, or by any of the causes which whiten tho locks prematurely, is restored to a healthy* lively appearance, and all the diea. groeable effects of dryness, the accumulation of dandruff or like impurities, are removed. From the Editor of the Real Estate Advertiser, 27 School 6t Boston, March 20, 1854. Paor. Wood: Dear Sir—Having becomo prematurely quite gray, I was induced some six weeks siuce, to make trisl of your Ilair Restorative. I have used less than two bottles, but the gray hairs have all disappeared; and al though my hair has not fully attained Its original color, yet the process ot change is gradually going on, and I have great hopes that, in a short time, my hair will be as dark as formerly. I have alsobeen much gratified at the healthy moisture aud vigor of the.hair, which before was harshand dry, oßd it has ceased to come out as formerly. Respectfully Yours, D. O. M. Repp, Prof. Wood: Dear Sir—My hair commenced fulling off some three or four j-ears since, and continued to do so until I became quite bald. I tried all the popular remedies of the day, but to no effect; at last 1 was induced to use your cel ebrated Hair Restorative, and am very happy to say It is doing wonders. I huve now a fine growth of young hair, and cheerfully recommend Us use to all similarly afflicted. A. O. Williamson, 133 Second street. St. Louis, March 7th, 1854. I have used Prof. 0. J. My hair was becoming, as I thought, prematurely* grey. but bv the use of bis Restora tive, it has resumed its original color, and, 1 have no doubt, permanently so. Stdht.t Ex-Senator, United Btates. It entirely cleanses tho head of dandruff, and with ono month’s proper use will restore any person’s hair to the original youthful color and texture, giving it a htfalthy, roft, and glossy appearance, and all this without dbcoloring tbe hsuds that apply It, or the dress m which it drops. I would, therefore, recommend its use to every one desirous of having a fine color and texture to hair. Respectfully yours, Wilson Kiaa. Tct sale by O. J.
